We should all ask a ton of "appropriate" questions in that communicate with samsung thing. Like:

How come the phone is a greyish black?
Why did you choose to use a chrome trim?
Do you think the screen is pretty?

I think there may be some over-reading of the press release going on.

Over reading? Maybe. it is just one article and a weak link. I read it pretty late and the mind can play tricks that late.

The part that mentions 2.3 is just a part of the press release that is touting the benefits of the Sybase program. It lists a bunch of things it can do, and to me that bit about the 2.3 is just a disclaimer saying that 2.3 is required to have all of these benefits. The Sybase Afaria program can run on Android devices with 2.0.1 or higher (Afaria Clients). They could certainly make that program available to our phones without even a froyo update and it wouldn't contradict anything in that press release.

That is true, i thought of that too, but my rational was that they would have separated the Galaxy S out from the SII if they were going to write the article and put the 2.3 disclaimer in. it seems to me that Sybase would have asked Samsung which phones it had/wanted to support the "New" Clients, which would require 2.3, and Samsung told them the S and SII.

You make very valid points as do some people replying to this article, but i also found it odd, if you would, that Samsung is releasing 4ish sub-Galaxy Phones with 2.2 .... food for thought.

Just give us AOSP for the device. I own it and Sprint should have no say in the matter. I realize this will never happen but it should. I am getting ready to switch to a nexus as this is the only way to eliminate the clash between carriers/mfgs. Google started something great with android its just sad that the carriers/mfgs don't see that yet and keep adding stuff to it and bogging it down with stuff we don't want. If we want that stuff we can add it ourselves, or is that too hard to understand?

I am the consumer here and I want what I want...plain and simple. Maybe the wrong place for this but its what I wanted to say...and this seemed like a good spot to throw it out there.

There are some of us who can't root our phones for certain reasons. There are some of us whom support multiple epic users in a business setting and need an ota update to allow certain functions.

Just because you don't have a reason to complain, does not mean others don't have a valid reason

You only represent yourself, not every epic user out there.

your right i only represent myself and maybe i don't understand the whole story behind everyone's complaint it just seems fruitless to me. but again all i'm reading is epic sucks and samsung sucks and this and that, i guess the bottom line is i don't understand why people feel this way. as i said before i just bought my epic and came from a moment and i love my phone. so yeah i just don't understand that's all. don't mean to offend! i give props to the devs on this site for the work they do. awesome!

At the very least, Samsung should release a functional 2.2.1 update and source for their entire Galaxy S family of smartphones. However, I fail to see this happening. My gut feeling tells me that Samsung is trying to rewrite drivers and software to work around or hide a flaws in the hardware. I think this is why Froyo keeps getting pushed back month after month and why DK28 works fine for some and not others. The problem is much more complicated than Sprint's Software or Touchwiz not working properly.

Enjoy loving your phone! Don't let yourself covet the features that we don't have. Seriously, it is a great phone. Just frustrating that we don't get the upgrades that add some really nice features. Kudos to you if you like the phone the way it is. It will save you lots of headaches!

I would be surprised if it happens on the 21st since that would mean they only tested the new build for a couple of days. IMO, logic tells me that it will be at least another week before we see an update.

Ok, based on a few suggestions, I am starting this thread as an Android 2.2 rumor thread for the Epic 4G. This is to be the ONLY thread complaining, whining, commenting, or asking about 2.2 on the Epic! Report all other threads about 2.2 rumors on the Epic and I'll merge them into this one. Also, repeat offenders who make more then one new thread about 2.2 outside this one will be infracted/and or banned for trolling. Thank you for your cooperation, and happy posting ;)

2.2 is sluggish. iOS is a lot more better. Hope they fix it in 2.3.

I received some information today that I am going to share with you guys. I don't know how good the information is but that is for you guys to decide.

I was speaking with a Sprint employee today and I was telling him how aggravated I was about the whole Epic situation. We talked about Froyo being released for the Epic today, and I mentioned Gingerbread. He said that Sprint is supposed to be receiving Gingerbread from Samsung in April, but that is really hush hush. He then quickly changed the subject, and his inflections almost seemed to me like he felt he shouldn't have said that.

    Anyway, there you go.
