From what I put together this morning, not only will the odex create (allow) more space in data because of no need for dalvik, it is a ton faster because of the lack of compression for the odex files, since the classes.dex are no longer in the apk itself. So you get speed and performance.

Edit: that didn't really answer your question...hehe

Interesting, so are you saying from your research this morning, you have found that Dalvik-Cache is something that arises out of using de-odexed ROMs, and not something that would exist in an odex version of the same ROM? I could see this I guess, since once we rooted our phones and started playing with flashable roms, they were all de-odexed and hense I got used to seeing dalvik-cache on all of them.

Well, I still don't have a full grasp on it yet. I talked with mik and he answered some questions. I did a little googling too. Stock roms come odexed as far as the system and frameworks go. The odex files are short for optimized dalvik executables. They tell the system what to do. In a deodexed rom, the dalvik virtual machine has to pull/decompile (looking for correct wording) the classes.dex from within each apk at boot up, thus long boot up times. With odex, it cones precompiled and thus need not decompile. The dalvik still exists even in stock roms. It is an android thing. So market apps and data appa still use it. Deodexing just allowed the system and framework files to utilize the dalvik and make theming easier because the apks are more or less all inclusive since the classes.dex are within the apk. So jeff, that is what I gathered. Our mik is changing the game.

Edit: also, the odex files are more device specific and not as easily toyed with. Thats why most devs have used deodexed from the old days. Mik said that the new devices are different. We can do more with them now then we could then. Its time to invent some new creative ways of doing things instead of utilizing the same old tricks over and over. I see it like that.

Well I have to ask, how much is everyone paying for a mediafire account? I seen the free one but it only allows you 200mb of storage. Not trying to be nosey just was thinking of opening one. Already have RapidShare and Mega (slow)accounts.

Mediafire is unlimited. 200mb is the limit per file...

Awesome! Thank you. In high school we did a little awareness night for this cause. Its amazing how much they've accomplished in just a few years. This kind of work is my ultimate goal.

Cool, they just sent me a tax receipt as well! Obviously a well run, viable charity that I will keep in mind for future donations once my first $B is in the bank:D

ROFLMAO!! I forgot I already have a mediafire account. God I deserve a "FacePalm"

Yup, I have well over 200mb total on my account, and since even a fully loaded ROM is less than 200mb, mediafire is the way to go for free hosting of our files!

While I appreciate the extra storage space, I'm running apps2sd and wonder, just how much room do I need??:D (see the attached screenshot)
First time poster to a Mik thread. I've been running Myn's Warm Z for a while and like it a lot. I've been following this thread since it started and am ready to flash Mik Z. I haven't run apps2sd for a while. Jk, how do you have your sd card partitioned? Are you running a swap partition? I have an 8 GB Class 6 and want to give apps2sd a try, as I seem to be running out of room for apps on my current setup. Also, I think you mentioned you're running cache on sd? Does that require any difference in partitioning, or do you just run cachesd to make it work? Thanks.

For those of you who don't know, Amazon has an Android app store now and they give away a daily free "paid" app everyday!!

I have been playing around with the SwiftKey Keyboard trial, and today the Amazon store gave the full version away!

The only thing is you have to check both app stores to get updates, whichever store you downloaded the app from is the only one that keeps track of you downloads.

To get Amazon app store, just google "amazon android app" and they send you an SMS with the download link. I could only get this first step to work for me by doing the google and then entering my phone number on my laptop, tried it from the phone browser and even FireFox 4 beta on the phone but the send SMS just wouldn't "take" until I did it from my laptop, not my phone!
I haven't tried Amazon's app store yet, because of having to update apps in the Market and the App store. However, I'm a long-time user of SwiftKey. I just got an email from SwiftKey, and they are offering it for free in the Android Market today only, too.

If you don't know what SwiftKey does, here's an explanation. It suggests words as you are typing, but once you select the current word, or hit the spacebar, SwiftKey pops up 3 words to try and predict what your NEXT word is going to be. I can often type a whole sentence by just selecting the words it suggests. Try it and see if you like it. ;)

My disk is partitioned just like my signature indicates. 512 MB ext3, NO SWAP, and after reflashing the rom (or if you don't want to reflash, I think you can just go adb shell or terminal app and run "a2sd repair" or maybe it is "a2sd reinstall" and it will detect the new sd card configuration). After I did this, run a "a2sd check" and make sure the apps are moved to the sd ext3 partition, then run "a2sd cachesd" to move the cache. This gives me the most room left, and the cachesd works great so long as you have a Class 6 or greater sd card.

PS ++1 for SwiftKey, it is now my absolute favorite Keyboard! Hint...if someone (jdeloach??) wants to skin this keyboard MikMik blue and white,I wouldn't hate it:p
