I have a question, this is to be a paid app?

What would be the kernel developers motivation for helping you to profit from their kernel work? If not a paid application please disregard.

I'd say think about it as being akin to the "Donate" version of ROM Manager.

Exposure.

Being in Kernel manager would allow more people to see your work. The same as being in ROM manager. I find a kernel I like, or one I didn't know about. I install it, I like it, I donate to the kernel developer. Or I visit their personal webpage and they get a few ad impressions, etc.

Does it always have to be about money?

edit: This post says it alot better than I did.

If you read the OP, there will be an ad-supported free version and an ad-free paid version.

Our hope is kernel developers will see this as a way to get their kernels to a wide audience as well as receive comprehensive feedback from the users directly on our management interface.

Finally, hosting for the kernels through kernel manager as well as use of our interface is free to the developer.

Finally finally, I would really hope that the kernel developers would understand that TeamWin's goals have always been to advance development for the community as a whole, as clearly evidenced by Wimax in Cyanogenmod and our FREE HDMwIn mirroring solution (for the Evo).

Quite aside from that, it gets kernel devs greater exposure. Not even CLOSE to most people read XDA/PPCGeeks/etc. Having a single app in the market where pretty much EVERYONE can get to that shows kernels for your specific device, with ratings, would be extremely advantageous to kernel developers....many (if not most) of whom have donate pages. The more exposure, the more chance of getting donations for the developer. It's a win/win.

(This obviously is NOT meant to imply that developers are in it for the money. 99.9% of them are in it solely to create something good for the community.)

The donations help developers purchase new devices, so it is a little about the money.

I don't particularly like Rom Manager and was excited when I heard of this application, my kernel work could use more exposure I just want to make sure it's done in a way that is beneficial to all parties before submitting...the community, the app devs, and the kernel devs. Something that Koush has failed to do with Rom Manager in my opinion, it always seemed to me that RM was about making his pocket fatter...I know he has done a lot for the community and thank him but I'm speaking strictly of Rom Manager.

<snip>.

Absolutely. Of course, donations help developers purchase new devices which they continue to develop for and the community continues to benefit.
