It's easy to fix...

In line 502 in /init

replace this...

Code:
sed -i s/PPPDEV/$PPPDEV/ /etc/init.rc
with this...

Code:
sed -i s,PPPDEV,$PPPDEV, /etc/init.rc

All this does is change the internal delimiter for the sed command. It doesn't change the result, which is to replace the string "PPPDEV" in the file with the contents of the $PPPDEV variable during boot. What is it that you are trying to accomplish?

So since I did this edit too should it be changed back?

The existing sed line throws an error. The fixed line was provided by hilandsun so you'll have to ask him.

Whoops. you're right. I must have got my scripts mixed up.

Not unless you want your data to stop working.

Oh, I see the issue now. There are slashes in the string "/dev/smd7" that $PPPDEV contains. That will cause sed to cough up blood and die if slash is the delimiter. His fix somehow didn't make it into the merge request. Thanks for pointing it out.

I have downloaded 'rootfs-f22-hyc-20110419-e96477d.img' (extracted and renamed to rootfs.img) and still no data connection with the 'ril2-f5ab264' RIL.

Will placing this fix (sed -i s,PPPDEV,$PPPDEV, /etc/init.rc) in the froyo.user.conf help me get data connection...and if so, does this need to be placed in the custom shell commands within the {}?
