Ill keep this short. There has been a lot of talk lately about tmo lying about the AT&T bands however I am here to prove that our phones are setup and enabled for AT&T . The option to enable is hidden. See below for proof.

not so sweet. this is the fifth time this hidden menu method has been brought up in this forum. The rest are in the original thread regarding the lack of non AWS band support. THIS DOES NOT WORK. At least for now, until someone awesome makes it work.

Yes, a number of people have tried it and no go. The belief is that the bands are there but the radios may not even be able to see them or they are simply locked down and can be enabled. I have run into both those scenarios in the past. Whether the lock down comes from AT&T or from T-mo is unknown to my knowledge.

After more poking around the Hidden Menu, WCDMA doesn't seem to be supported for AT&T. Thoughts?

I'm unlocked and on AT&T now but only on 2G.

Guys, this is easy...

THE RADIO DOES NOT SUPPORT UMTS 850/1900 RIGHT NOW!

I can think of several examples (Atrix, Captivate, Inspire "4g") of phones that operate / are supposed to operate at certain speeds or frequencies. They can say on the box that it supports these bands because the hardware is capable of it... we just need the right radio / baseband image.

EG: My captivate gets about ~2mbps down / 1.5 up because I have a different radio image. I think it's the same thing we're looking at here.

Totally understand this. But, the question is: is it possible with an update? That's the point.

Off topic, but how are you getting Linpack 49Mflops on the G2x ? I'm getting around 35 each time I run it.

the software displays the base bands but the radio does not receive the frequencies.

End of line.

My T-Mobile Nexus displayed that info so did my G2 and Vibrant 4G but the Frequencies are different and the radio will not get them.

+1

My LG Optimus One from Telus has an identical band selection menu which includes bands that the phone does not support. The screenshot proves nothing. Could a moderator just close this thread before anyone else gets their hopes up?

i find it amazing that none of the major sites have talked about this despite heavily promoting about its quad 4g-ness in many reviews. It is very irrresponsible.

Looking through the LG-P999 (optimus 2x/ g2x) service manual, which you can find it yourself on the interwebz:

Page 7:

WCDMA(FDD4) TX : 1710 – 1755 MHz
WCDMA(FDD4) RX : 2110 – 2155 MHz
EGSM TX: 880 – 915 MHz

On Page 21:

"The LG-P999 supports UMTS-2100, UMTS-1700, GSM-850, GSM-900, DCS-1800, and PCS-1900 based GSM/GPRS/EDGE/UMTS."

on Page 23:

GSM mode

"The GSM-850/GSM-1800, receiver inputs of PMB5703 are connected directly to the transceiver front-end Module. The GSM-900/GSM-1900 receiver inputs are using the Rx path with WCDMA1900 and WCDMA900 bands. The GSM-850, GSM-900, GSM-1800, and GSM-1900 receiver inputs use differential configurations to improve common-mode rejection and second-order non-linearity performance."

Now the thread can be closed. :D
