ah - I had to get the adb drivers installed by starting the installation for HTC sync, but only the first part where it says it needs to install usb drivers - once it did that, and it started the actual install of htc sync, I didn't go futher and promptly started unrevoked and it worked!

Never mind, I already found the answer to my 'problem' elsewhere on the forums. *I should learn how to read*

E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/command
E:Can't find MISC:
E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/log

im a bit concerned about the 'cant find' messages. Also i cant seem to backup using the backup and restore options...Is there a way to fix this problem? Is this a serious problem? Btw im using an htc desire.

just realized my earlier question has been asked in previous posts...so let me see, the solution would be to load the amonra recovery image. Sorry newbie question though, how do i load the recovery image? Do i have to unroot and repeat the whole process again? I hope someone answers my post..thanks in advance!

Just run unrevoked again but select custom recovery in the file menu and navigate to amon-ra img. I'd recommend flashing 2.0.1 as it also backs up ext. You can find it inside the amon-ra thread, use search. Good luck.

it worked..aside from using the amon-ra img i also had to change the unrevoked version i was using..had to use 3.21 instead of 3.22. Thanks for the help.

Hmm..so now im trying to put on the cyanogenmod rom. Instructions are:

1.First time flashing CyanogenMod 7 to the HTC Desire GSM, or coming from another ROM?
2.Root the device and install ClockworkMod Recovery. Instructions are available here.
3.Perform a NANDroid backup of your current ROM.
4.Format the system, data & cache partitions of your device.
5.Perform a factory reset.
6.Flash CyanogenMod.
7.Optional: Install the Google Apps addon package.

ive finished number 3 but im not quite sure how to go about doing number 4 & number 5. Can anyone help me how to do this step by step? sorry im a complete newb.

Also do i need to have s-off?

I think it's just root (S-OFF is a separate procedure). At least it was when I did it.
