[ rooting instructions ]

before u proceed... make sure that u have read this:
[How-To] Safely test custom kernels / custom ROMs and get back to stock SE 2.3 ROM (we are interested only in custom boot.img section)
AT LEAST TWICE!

How to use FastBoot:

[Newbie Guide] adb/fastboot/bootloader/android 101

[ requirements ]

  • phone is on stock firmware: 4.0.A.2.368
  • bootloader is unlocked
  • boot.img from this post
  • fastboot files
  • SuperOneClick PC app (i recommend SuperOneClickv1.7-ShortFuse) OR Flashtool

[ how to root ur Xperia Ray ]

  1. make sure u are on stock firmware: 4.0.A.2.368

  2. download the boot.img provided below and save it in same folder as fastboot.exe

  3. power down phone

  4. connect phone in fastboot mode (connect device via USB cable to PC)

  5. flash the boot.img using:

    Code:
    fastboot flash boot boot.img
  6. verify that u get [ OK ] at end of flashing

  7. disconnect USB cable

  8. power on phone

  9. when the OS boots up make sure that "Unknown sources" & "USB Debugging" is enabled

  10. connect device via USB cable to PC

  11. start SuperOneClick app on PC, click on Root (OR u can even start FLASHTOOL and then click ROOT)

  12. device might reboot

  13. when u get back in android OS, check app drawer u will see Superuser app

  14. congrats ur device is now ROOTED ;)

Awesome mate! :)

How likely is it that this root will survive the upcoming 2.3.4 upgrade?

Can someone help me?
When I try to flash my Ray I get always "Error Flashing. Aborted."
I´m using 0.2.9.1 and the FW provided from here... maybe I need an additional loader!?

Anyone an idea?

I just found out that need to install the PC Companion for the ADB driver to be working.

From step 1 to 9 is ok for me.

I am stuck at the step 10.

I have connect the Ray to USB, and it prompt to install SEMC HSUSB driver, which I can't find any.

Any body can provide me a link with the correct driver? I am using WinXP.

Thanks.

it should get installed by SEUS/PC Companion

Aha.

When checking out *#*#7378423#*#* >service info>config. you'll see "Rooting status: Bootloader unlocked allowed: yes" :D
So I'll probably wait for the offical unlock service from SE :p

Hi DoomLord, can we expect your custom kernel for the Ray also ?
That would be really useful if you find time !

To enter fastboot press volume up button and plug the USB cable, LED will turn blue
To enter flashmode press volume down button and plug USB cable, LED will turn green
