Quick Post to keep you guys in the know, I'm still waiting for Virgin Media to hook my connection up in the house I'm renting, hence why I haven't posted yet and am currently doing so from my phone in a public library 
I'm still settling in at uni, finally got my PC gear down here yesterday and hooked it all up, so once lecture introductions finish I'll be back to work on the app.
First on the agenda will be to compile, test, and release what I have, which is the KG6 based apk with the volume keys as shutter buttons. After that, I'll be finishing testing for the updated KH3 version then putting that up once I'm satisfied. Then I'll finally resume my experimenting with features for v2, especially the camerafocus since I recently came up with a hunch of what might be a workaround for the autofocus issue we're all having in the higher resolutions, involving replacing some of the array code for the 720 and 1080 resolutions with that of the 480 resolution code, since I recently noticed a continuous_AF call which isnt present in the 480 setting. No idea if it'll work or not, just throwing it out there in case anyone else is messing about with this too

i am currently getting FC when trying to use soundless apk, but i'm not concerned yet as this is my first try at it. i'll try some more.
*edit* this is resolved and now the 2nd paragraph is valid again.
how resolved? i skipped to the ADB instructions because i use CLI. with this and the other camera.apk replacement OPs out there, the CLI instructions do not list anything about the .odex file. removing/renaming .odex made it so FC goes away.
meanwhile, yulaws' wish is my primary wish as well. i find it absolutely ludicrous that samsung limits this functionality and it comes up as a frequent problem for me. i run into "Unable to start camera during call" situations all the time. i have yet to run low on battery and have a wish to take a picture. i'm sure it'll happen eventually, but camera use while in a call is a vastly more important feature for me. i will give more money the sooner anyone makes this problem go away.

The current version is based on KG6, HyperX's highbit versions are KG2 I believe, but both versions of the stock APK's were identical when I examined them. KH3 has had some changes (improvements hopefully), which is what the next minor release is going to be based on. I haven't had time to check newer releases for changes yet.

with support high dpi

It works on stock XXKI3
I think this camera will only work on a Samsung ROM. On CM you can't install/run Samsung stuff like Kies or anything else... So of course this Camera.apk will not work because some Samsung specific drivers needed... Maybe I'm wrong
No it does not.
I also find that it does not adjust the iso like the old app did.
It actually raises it higher and causes pictures to be more grainy.
Also the sound quality on KI8 is very gargled and crystallized on the high frequencies. Sounds like crap!
Answer - KI8 camcorder encodes the stream with a bitrate of only 64kbs.... the modded ones records at a much higher audio bitrate (196bps) and produces much better sound quality.
The only 2 improvements in the new KI8 camcorder are a faster interface and it is multi DPI compatible.
this KI8 camera stock one is sucks, but I have put the hack one from criskelos rom! this one has 196bps 48khz sound quality.
But does it have high bitrate on video recordings? I tried the one for KI3 and it was 29000mbps which is useless and takes up wayy too much space

u can always replace the old one again. but I love this one from criskelo rom hack cam ki8 version.
is this one kinda dead? i've been using the modded ki8 camera yesterday on a george michael concert.. video quality is OK (tho continuous autofocus is still very buggy and annoying)... the lower frequencies sound ok, but the high frequencies are simply crap... the videos sound like crap because the high freqs are way too strong and hissy... :/ can we expect and improvements to that?
as someone said faster bitrate in iteself will not fix everything.. i was hoping to get someone to implement the stuff in voodoo sound on the galaxy s that allows you to change mic input levels.. but so far no good.. that is really what is needed to record usuable sound at a concert.. b4 that the galaxy s also had crap sound.

Those of you wanting me to reupload the APK's, I'm sorry, I don't have them stored anymore, and I wouldn't put them up even if I did. They're based on ANCIENT firmware revisions, and whilst I can appreciate you still would like the functionality somehow, I'm not interested in taking on the project again at this time. Thank you very much for your continued use and desire for my work though, it's very flattering.
I won't be actively developing or supporting this anymore because of it's defunct nature. If you want something similar, I highly recommend the lgCamera app, which has a far better implementation of improved bitrates (select whatever bitrates you want in a menu.) You can get lgCamera on the market- I highly reccomend it.
Anyone who wants to pick up this project can feel free to discuss here or make a new thread, as you please. If you do, please include the link to the guide by Rafalense, as it was the basis for this mod and will doubtlessly be of use to someone.

It's with great pleasure that I'm releasing a hacked Camera.apk for you all today! This is my first android mod, so be gentle
Info-
The apk replaces the stock Camera.Apk in the Galaxy S II (or Samsung Captivate!), and has the following features-
- Allows use of the camera & camcorder at any battery life
- Records Audio in 192kbps/44.1Khz quality (CD Quality) rather than stock (64kbps/16khz quality)
- Increased Video Bitrate in 1080 and 720p modes* (See 2nd post for info and download link for this version)
- Optional No Sounds versions (for Standard and Highbit versions!). All of the features, None of the noise! Yes, even the autofocus noise is gone!
- HyperX-'s SuperHighBit version now available (See 2nd post for info and download link for this version)
I have left the settings for the 320x240 and 176x144 resolution modes as stock, so they will be the same size and with the same audio. This is to ensure video messages are kept within the filesize limits

Treble is high for loud sources in this mod, I'm working on improving it in v2. for now, just stand further back like robbiekhan said - Potatoman
Treble seems high so apologies for that, car volume was higher than I realised ¬_¬
Additional info:
If you want to get rid of the shutter sound, create a file in /data called local.prop and add the line "ro.camera.sound.forced=0" and restart your phone. This removes both the shutter sound and the focus sound when your phone is on silent, but keeps the sound when it's not on silent. - llBlackenedll
Install Guide:
1) Root & install a file manager which lets you browse root
2) browse to /system/app, and rename your Camera.apk to Camera.apk.bak and your Camera.odex to Camera.odex.bak (for use as a backup to restore from)
3) Unrar my APK (password: potatoman@xda) and copy it over to /system/app.
4) Rename it Camera.apk
5) Close the file manager and run the Camera app from the main menu
6) IF the app fails to run, or the shortcut is missing, go back to the /system/app folder and try to install it (tap it in root explorer then "install"). This step is only a fallback, do NOT do this if it works already at step 5.
7) Enjoy!

No mate, you're making yourself look like a twat. Does my app not work? Is it wrong of me to ask for a VOLUNTARY donation for something I put a lot of effort into? If I wanted it to be a scheme where you pay money and I do new features at the snap of your fingers, I would have made a Pro version and a Lite version and charged for it like a normal app. If you don't like what I do, feel free to leave and never come back.
I hate arrogant pricks like you. What have you done for the community lately? Donations are just that, a DONATION. I don't give to cancer research then come back 3 months later demanding a refund because people still get cancer. Even while I'm not working on the mod, I still reply to PM's and posts helping people with the current version of the mod on a regular basis, which is more than most dev's would do when they're supposed to be on a break.
Lots of people use my app daily on their phones, and I ask nothing in return. The generous ones who WANT to give can do so using the donation button, for which I am very grateful. That's as complex as it gets.
