The attached files were only tested with Urukdroid 1.5.1 (which uses Archos firmware v2.3.28). For other Archos firmware versions, you may need to recreate these files using the universal patchers mentioned at the end of this post. Please contribute to the poor souls who laboured for this solution to exist at last after it was a dream for so long.

Steps to follow:

Root your original Archos using the method detailed here:
http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=930197

OR: install Urukdroid on your Archos device (as it has already already rooted) from here:
http://code.google.com/p/urukdroid/wiki/WhatIsUruk

Rooting will permit you to overwrite system files (using a file manager like Root Explorer) as follows:

1- Place all lib* files in the /system/lib folder
2- Place the *.ttf file in the /system/fonts folder
3- Place the framework.jar file in the /system/framework folder

Archos Gen8 wont start

i have a101it gen 8 16 gb. It its working great with urukdroid 1.5. Th problem is Arabic rephrasing RTL support. i tried the method mentioned above (reframing) but after applying it the system won't start. It hangs on the init. rootfs screen and stays on it. Do you know how to fix this as it would be great to use RTL SUPPORT . i restored my system already but of course without rtl. Thank you.

Hello tobassam,
First of all, thanks a million for that post. I was starting to hate my A70IT since it lacks arabic, and I lost hope in Archos support.
I just need some confirmation about this method, since I will root my tablet (and void the warranty) especially to add arabic. So does it work flawlessly and without any errors? Also does it work with the original Archos ROM or it only work with Urukdroid?

I have just installed the latest Gen8 Archos ROM (fw 2.4.19), rooted using chulri's kernel (the +rw version), and implemented madmack's patcher version 0.813 from here http://blog.devasque.com/?page_id=11 and it's been running absolutely fantastic for weeks.

I came upon one issue when I was adding the patched files using Root Explorer. I noticed Root Explorer was not very stable or consistent in the process and the whole system crashed mid-copy, corrupting some files. Because I could still boot using the original kernel, I managed to copy the files to the right location there (check chulri's post for how-to). For this reason, make sure to boot in Developer Mode manually and don't remove the original Archos kernel until you're finished with the critical parts. You could also use ADB for copying the files (after a stop command) or use ES File Explorer instead of Root Explorer.

Also, I used the Archos OS because Urukdroid still doesn't handle bluetooth tethering correctly, and what I needed from Uruk was the larger app space which I got with the Archos OS when using this procedure http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=76&t=54637. But because of the way the Archos OS runs from squashfs and rooting keeps changed files in a separate folder, it was in general clearly running with a lot of lag compared with Urukdroid, see similar complaints here http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=76&t=57129&start=0. I may just revert back to Uruk for this reason.

Either update your Uruk first to 1.5.1 then use the attached files, or create your own patched files for your firmware version using easy Universal Patcher for Arabic available here http://blog.devasque.com/?page_id=11.
