HOW TO ROOT
1.) Download needed file
(update.zip)
2.) Copy ZIP file (update.zip) to your SD-card

3.) Turn off your phone

4.) Switch ON your device in the
recovery Mode (Hold Volume Up, Home Key, Power Button, together).
*Note: You will find your phone in recovery
mode with blue coloured UI. You cannot
use touchscreen while your phone is in
recovery mode.
For making selections and movements, you have to make use of volume up/
down keys and make the selection by
pressing home key.
5.) Select update from SD Card
option.

6.) You will see that the list of files will come from which you will have
to select the file which is named as
Update.zip. Press YES.

7.) Wait a few minutes

8.) And Your Galaxy Y
S5360 is now rooted!
9.)You now have SUPERUSER Installed! , it will simply
mean that you have rooted your
phone!
10.Download and Install BUSYBOX.
Done!
# # # # # # #
UNROOT Your Galaxy Y
download update-unroot.zip
Same Procedure. just choose update-root.update.zip and flash
# # # # # # #
How to install ClockWorkMod?
1. Root Your Phone
2. Download ClockWorkMod ZIP
3. Go To Stock Recovery Mode
4. Hold Volume Up + Home (Button) + Power
5.
Once you're in recovery mode.
Select
install zip from Sd card
6. Select cwm.zip and Flash.

HOW TO UNLOCK/OPENLINE GALAXY Y via CWM
Requirements:
>unlock.zip
>Rooted Phone
>ClockWorkMod Installed 1.
1. Go to CWM Recovery
2. Once you're in recovery mode.
Select install zip from Sd card
3.Select sgy-unlock.zip
# # # # # # #
Don't forget to press the thanks button!

PLease Help

Guys this is my first android and i am very scared abt rooting it....Will I brick it just by rooting or does it get bricked only while flashing roms??? please remove doubts!!!:confused:

I think there's no need for an unroot procedure unless you're thinking of a possible issue with warranty. Other than that, whether rooted or not, firmware o-t-a update via kies is guaranteed. In fact, just today my rooted s5360's firmware was updated to 2.3.6 via kies. No sweat. The only drawback; root was lost after the update, i had to redo the rooting method afterwards. ;)

I rooted

I rooted by this method about a week back. Thanks for the info guys.

But the reason I rooted was to load a custom ROM. Do you guys have any idea when the CM will be out for S5360?

To be honest I feel left out :(. I mean phones that came later than S5360 have CM roms, while we don't! I keep checking everyday if theres a release :p

hey everyone i was looking for a way to root my phone and i ended up here, i tried doing exactly as told in the first post but i had a little issue

when i select the update.zip and it starts to show files being installed i think then suddenly i get this error message, that's what i get in the final screen

(Status 7)
Installation aborted

phone: GT-S5360B (B = brazil?)
android 2.3.5

is there a way around this? i searched everywhere but no one seems to have the same problem with this particular phone,
well any help would be much appreciated

    Alright, here goes:
    (1) Unpack "update.zip" file
    (2) Edit "updater-script" file (found inside META-INF folder). Use wordpad or similar to retain formatting
    (3) Change the first two getprop entries to "GT-S5360B" instead of "GT-S5360". Save the file
    (4) Repack "update.zip" file but use no compression. Winzip is good on this
    (5) Now redo rooting procedure.
