First attempt on Odin looked like it went fine and "Passed" but it soft-bricked! Reran it a second time, doing nothing different and it passed again. This time it immediately went to the Boot screen and started normally. Success! I checked wifi, network and phone. They all work fine. Restarted in Download Mode and the Flash Counter reads zero! I then updated Superuser in the market and ran Root Explorer and TiBu and they each requested Superuser Access, as they should. Granted SU and Root Explorer runs in R/W mode now. That smells like complete Root Success to me! Woohoo! So nice to have root on day 6 of Note ownership!

Thanks again Mashi. Here's a little something for your hard work! 993722939K5886837
And Props to Capite and Blownco for hosting the file to get this moving.
So for any doubters, this works perfect. Roots the i-717, doesn't trigger the Flash Counter.

The only thing about root explorer is that there is no free version of the app. You have to pay to download. It's a great app, but if you don't want to pay for it you can use adb to delete the files.

there are two free alternatives I use.

1) ES Explorer, under settings, enable root and enable r/w, then it basically works like root explorer.

2) SuperManager - same ****, enable root, and you can change system r/w stuff

use PDA?

please advise

This is what worked for me:

1. Download mashi's file onto your desktop. Use 7zip and extract it.

1. download Odin 1.85 onto your PC and install it (actually you might not have to install it, just extract it and have it ready).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...3&d=1304094576

2. Download the drivers for your phone on the PC and install it. Then plug in your phone to make sure it works -- it seems to take a while to get everything working. If you get an error, try rebooting and try again. Also, try using the cable that came with your phone -- 3d party cables don't always seem to work. If it still doesn't work, try another USB port.
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/ow...SGH-I717ZBAATT

3. Turn off your phone and uplug it. Take the battery out of your phone, put it back in, and hold the volume down button and power button at the same time. Keep them held down until the phone starts buzzing and you see the Samsung name.

4. At this point you are either in download mode or the phone will tell you to hit volume up, at which point you'll be ready.

5. Run Odin on your PC -- right click and choose "Run as Administrator" just to be safe.

6. Plug your phone into your PC.

7. In the Odin screen, wait until one of the top boxes turns yellow and displays some numbers.

8. UNCHECK all the boxes except for Auto Reboot.

9. Hit the PDA button and navigate to mashi's file that you unzipped.

10. Hit start

11. wait until your phone reboots.

12. If it didn't work, try rebooting and starting from scratch.

13. Papashex says: verify super user app now present. Update super user app (optional).

I am pretty sure the Rogers version is the international version of the phone and is completely different hardware than the AT&T version. I think it would be a mistake to try this on your phone. Like they said in Ghostbusters: 'It is very dangerous to cross the beams'.

Edited in: It seems there are people making cross kernels so I guess I could be wrong but I would be sure.

Your correct completely. Don't flash this "att_root.zip" file on anything but an Att Note. They have an large entire forum for the international versions of the Note.

Please hit THANKS button if I help you, I have very low self esteem, and I crave validation! Sent from my Team EOS ICS Xoom
