got it working.
the magic trick was to wipe / factory reset in stock recovery and not in CWM / custom recovery!

but how can i change the hardware keyboard to qwertz?
is there a zip file i can install with cwm?

€dit: ok got it working.

simply extracted the files from my gingerbread sbf file and copied them to the phone.

but now when i hold the powerbutton the phone simply resets and dont display the screen to choose if you want to shutdown or reboot or so on.

is it possible to install blur 3d on this rom?
I tried it with the blur 3d from walter's thread but my phone wont start anymore.
I used the zip and installed it via cwm.

Blur3d works, replace files from zip with root explorer and set permissions. Zip has blurhome2.apk rename to blurhome.apk and delete old one. After this reboot and wipe dalvik cache.

Which GB kernel does this use: UK or CH? Reason I ask is that a) I want to be able to downgrade in future, and b) I can't stand the multi-touch bug on the UK kernels.

flash fixed sbf from first post (ch kernel)

Thanks for the response but I don't understand what a fixed SBF actually is. I'm currently using MIUI so the only installation method I have used is installing zip files via CWM.

Also, when I clicked on the fixed SBF link there were quite a few files... which do I need to use?

Fixed SBF = CH Kernel
If I'm not wrong, choose 4.5.2-109-DHT-22-fixed.sbf
After restore msginger with CWM, before the first boot, enter in boot mode ( hold up button + power) and flash the fixed sbf with rsd lite 4.9 or above. Then wipe data (hold X + power button then vol up + vol down), or you will get bootloop

ive done it like you adviced but after this the rom wont boot anymore and hangs on the red defy logo / bootlogo and wont go further.

permissions were set properly.

yes i set the right permissions but it wont boot.
i copied the 2 lib files in the /system/lib folder and the blurhome.apk to /system/app
(replaced the old one) and set the permissions.

then shutdown the phone and clean dalvik cache.
when i boot the phone again it comes this flashy logo which shows a red ball and then defy and this is where it hangs.

what can i do?

shall i install the 3dperformance-update first?

Are you set permissions of lib files?
I will create a update.zip later

Some questions before testing ms2ginger 4 beta2:
  1. I have the german stock 2.3.4 installed, rooted, and using now cm9
  2. do i have to factory reset before installing ms2ginger4beta2? Or can i simply just flash with custom recovery, because there is multiboot functionality in the new beta as you mentioned in the defy thread? which cwm do i need? cwm5? because the beta contains a *.tar file.
  3. do i also need the milestone2-patch.zip?
excuse me for asking but i was wondering if i can use ms2ginger4beta in test-mode(over custom recovery/multiboot) and keep on using simultaneously my installed cm9, which works good till now

Phone won't boot after Battery Dies

Hey Guys,
Had a strange bug today... my battery died so I put my phone on my multimedia cradle/charger. After that it wouldn't boot. I tried restoring with RSD Lite 5.6 but now it's stuck in boot loop.

    After some mods I could get Defy's boot menu to work on Milestone2. Will test it further before trying CM7 + Boot menu.

    Great news

    Great News ppl!

    I was able to flash my own update.zip into this damned Milestone2 phone. It looks like the /system protection is only engaged when you format /system partition or when you delete recursively the bare /system directory. But it is possible to remove the contents of every single /system sub-directory without being punished by the M logo lockdown. It's very simple indeed and the idea come from the updater-script of Droid2 Fission ROM.

    To achieve this result you should remove the following lines of updater-script:
    - any format command issued to /system
    - delete_recursive("/system");

    And replace for this lines:
    delete_recursive("/system/app/");
    delete_recursive("/system/etc/");
    delete_recursive("/system/fonts/");
    delete_recursive("/system/framework/");
    delete_recursive("/system/lib/");
    delete_recursive("/system/media/");
    delete_recursive("/system/tts/");
    delete_recursive("/system/usr/");
    delete_recursive("/system/xbin/");

    Also my custom update.zip where able to start ADB while the phone is still booting.

    Very nice :)

    I had exactly the same problem as yours while flashing roms a while ago

    you won' t fix it with the baseband switching app that comes for instance with milestone 2 toolbox (it did not work for me)

    you have to follow the full procedure described here

    http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1182050

    this should certainly work

    From that chinese forum gfan, I used google translate to find the rom heh and suffered a beyond slow download rate on u.115.com, I'm finishing uploading it to a eastern server.

    The original file is located at u.115.com/file/bh5durqs#
    click on the button I circled red to download it
