- turn on airplane mode
- start a terminal emulator and run "su" then "bp_ptc"

Voilà! Your simcard works again!
Of course this method isn't permanent, but it's a good way to check if the softunlock method works. Edit the init file manually to avoid having to do this every time you turn your phone on.
