List of NFC apps that you use

Could we maybe start a list in OP's post of apps that you guys use for NFC? Maybe not only to scan, but anything NFC related?

Just a thought :)

There are a lot of NFC apps in the play store, so I think a list of the best ones would be great. However if it is going to cover all NFC related apps it would be better to create a separate thread for it.

I have a few for you.

In Japan, there are 3 major emoney options.
One is called Edy, which has an app for NFC devices, and there's usually an Edy app available for many of Japan's non android phones as well.
Edy allows you to apply a credit card to the app and charge your app with funds. You can then use your phone to pay for things at convenient stores and whatnot.

Edy itself does not, however, directly pay for train passes (train gates have NFC readers, a bit on that in a moment).

There are 2 e money options for paying for train fees in Japan- Suica and Pasmo.
The most common way to use either is to buy a plastic NFC card which you can charge at machines at most train stations and convenient stores, using cash.
These cards can then be swiped over the train gates' NFC readers. The card is noted with your first location, then noted again at your destination and deducts the correct amount depending on distance traveled.

Both Pasmo and Suica cards can also be used on compatible vending machines, convenient stores, taxis, buses, and more, just like NFC cards here in America.

To my knowledge, neither Suica nor Pasmo have a specific app on any of the major mobile markets (iOS/android).

However, I do believe you can add your Pasmo or Suica card to the Edy app.

You can also use an app called FareBot to read your Suica and Pasmo cards to see the current balance, but that's it- it's just a reader.

Im summary:

FareBot can read your Suica, Pasmo, and perhaps many other cards to tell you current balance.
Edy app can be downloaded. It's region specific. People without a phone purchased in Japan may need to use this mod to remove country restrictions. http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1582422
Then, you can add funds to the app, as well as use the app to utilize the Suica and Pasmo payment options, meaning you don't need your card! =D Just swipe the phone as you pass through the turn gate!

I haven't actually used the Edy app, so I don't know the exacts about it. If someone uses it, please reply with what exactly it can do to keep others informed!

For those in America, there seems to be a really awesome multipurpose wallet app in the works called Isis. The intention seems that it wants to be the most versatile, allowing you to add loyalty cards, coupons, credit cards, etc... it's not even released yet, and it does way more than google wallet. Here's the link to the front page. From there you can navigate to the news and follow them for updates. I'm looking forward to it.

I see OP mentioned the Breeze card. You're referring to the MARTA Breeze card, right? I noticed my Galaxy Nexus can detect it but nothing happens...it just gives the "failed" sound or whatever it is. Any pointers to get it to recognize?

interesting. i am almost certain this technology could be used in a practical business sense for schools and such for paying lunches and turning in homework for class, assuming that homework can one day be done on a tablet

I just unknowingly lay down my S3 on my passport, and it decided to scan it. Didn't ever think of the possibility of it even having a chip.
You can add Dutch Passport to the list. Also, my passport was issued on the 5th of July, 2011. I don't know when they started adding NFC to passports.

We have two types of passport-like things btw, some people have an ID card instead of a passport. They have the same function but the ID card is only valid within Europe, while the passport is worldwide. Since I do not own an ID card I cannot test if it has NFC as well. The card is usually called Identity Card, Nederlandse Identiteitskaart, or NIK. So if any Dutch person wanted to add another Dutch national ID, pay attention, it might be another type of passport, and you might want to put it under passports instead of ID.

We have a Passport ID Card in the U.S. that sounds similar to this. I know that it has RFID, so it should scan, but I don't have one to confirm this.

I've noticed that a lot of people are looking for things to do with their NFC enabled phone and there isn't much information out there, so I thought I would make a list of things that you can scan. Keep in mind some will require a specific app, a pin, or come up as either "unsupported" or will be encrypted.

How do you find nfc scanable stuff?

Sent from my GT-I5700 using Tapatalk 2

I'm guessing touching your phone to everything you suspect of being scannable.

Just out of curiosity: if I were to create a database where everybody could read and add new tags, would you use it?

You all have done a great work already, but I was thinking of doing something more, which means adding the type of NFC tag, the location and other useful info (like keys, notes, and so on), so that everybody can look up on the database using the filters they need.

Would you like me to work on it :)?

yes, the antenna is located within the battery. The actual NFC chip is located within the actual device it self.... that's how it works
