Change background image

First of all, sorry my bad English ;)

I found a simple way to change the background image for all panels (it work for me, but I don't know if will work for everyone).

I changed the file background.xml (inside qa_layout.dat) file like this:

<Layout Name="Default">
<Plugins>
<Plugin Class="Spb.LSP.SimpleBackgrd" Name="Fundotela"/>
</Plugins>
</Layout>

<Layout Name="240x320">
<Plugins Extends="Default">
<Plugin Name="Fundotela" Skin="qa_fundotela" >
<String Name="ImageName" Value="background"/>
<BoundRect X="0" Y="0" Width="240" Height="320"/>
</Plugin>
</Plugins>
</Layout>

Then I create a qa_fundotela.dat with the images for the background (portraid and landscape). In my case, the image sizes are 240x320 and 320x240 (see the attached file - rename it to .dat).

This modification solved the scroll problem (for the MRU and other panels with scroll).

Holidays in MS3 Calendar:
In Outlook 2007 activate local holidays for your given country in tools/option/calendar options/add holidays/choose country (or similar, I have German Outlook SP2)
Sync over activesync, holidays will appear in MS3 calendar

It is ok we all make mistakes but please check before you reprimand. Thanks for you time and I do appreciate any help I get and am able to give No hard feelings and all is good thanks for the great thread. Later guys.....here is the link again.

Two more tweaks courtesy of Modaco:

Map hardware button to contacts carousel
go to windows/start menu/programs/spb mobile shell and make a duplicate of the spbcontacts.lnk or an other one.. change the link properties to "\Program Files\Spb Mobile Shell\MenuLauncher.exe" -cmd:"dlg|:MANAGEFAVS" then map it to a button.

Add SPB Menu button to main screen
Call SPB Menu from the main screen, with a button between Launcher and Contacts buttons on the bottom - use attached cab
Caution: This will overwrite your qa_layouts.dat customizations, so make a backup!

With the adding of a third button, do you think it would be possible to add something other than MENU? If so, could you please post the steps that was done to add the MENU button so that I may try to add something else. I had someone request it be a SHOW TODAY button to quickly get to the WinMO home screen. Thanks!

Hi Zepiii, Blue theme if fine for me...
I'm preparing a CAB with the theme and the required entries em registry for my widgets. I will post the link for download ASAP.
I tried the trick with the QVGA, but I think that it will work with any version (changing the name and the image size on the Layout tag).

Backups: has anyone experimented with the Backup Settings option in SPB MS3? Does it save files such as the .dat ones or just registry settings - menus and widgets?

From my experience with it only saves spb settings. nothing to do with .dat files or manual reg changes.

For me, it saved all my widget place and shortcut place on the lifestyle panel.
Also, my favourite contacts. But for exemple, i had changed the calendar for the thumbcal plugin... after reinstalling and restoring my backup, it wasn't there anymore.

Turborepu over at Modaco took the time to write down how to add a 3rd button manually to the menubars in the Pro and Life panels, but also in the others:

"the qa_layouts contains various xml files.. if you know how to edit that you can make the three button or 4 our how ever many you figure you can fit if you make the images. if you want to avoid making changes and without the ability to revert to the original files, just save your new "menubar" file as something like "menubarcustom" or menubar3 4 etc..(menubar2 is already used by spb)
The pro screen(lockscreen) and lifestyle screen(lockscreen2) use menubar.xml
the weather, time and carousel use menubar2.xml
the call log(calllog), favorite contacts(favcontacts), and spb contacts(spbcontacts) use menubarcontacts.xml

towards the top of the xml files for any of these pages(lockscreen, lockscreen2 etc etc) you will see
"<Layer Name="Menu" Dialog="MenuBar" />"..
Menubar refers to the menu it will use.. so say you made a new MenuBar files but called it "MenuBarcustom", you'd then have to go into the screens that you want to use this one on, and make it be " <Layer Name="Menu" Dialog="MenuBarcustom" />"
You'd do this for any of the screens you need this on..
if you go into the menubar.xml you will see this towards the top.
"- <Plugin Class="Spb.LSP.MenuBar" Name="Btn0" ID="1">
<String Name="Backgrd" Value="MenuBackgrd" />
<Int Name="GlobalIcon" Value="216" />
<String Name="Text" Value="Launcher" />
<String Name="Open" Value=":LAUNCHER" />
</Plugin>
- <Plugin Class="Spb.LSP.MenuBar" Name="Btn1" ID="2">
<String Name="Backgrd" Value="MenuBackgrd" />
<Int Name="GlobalIcon" Value="217" />
<String Name="Text" Value="Contacts" />
<String Name="Open" Value=":FAVORITES" />"

there is more, but this refers to the two buttons, you can also see here that they have the "text" value which is the text you see on the menu.. this part of the file also defines the plugin, so say you wanted to add a third button like in the post above me, you'd have to copy the same layout of one of those buttons and change the values reflect what you need it to do..
"- <Plugin Class="Spb.LSP.MenuBar" Name="Btn2" ID="3">
<String Name="Backgrd" Value="MenuBackgrd" />
<Int Name="GlobalIcon" Value="217" />
<String Name="Text" Value="SpbMenu" />
<String Name="Open" Value=":SPBMENU" />"
it is important to change the top line "name" value because when you edit the actual placement of the buttons, further down in this file, it refers to the "name". i changed the btn id to 3. i have no clue what that does... but it seems like the all have their own ids.. probably for some spb reason, maybe for changing values when the program language is changed. for this button i dont know what the icon value is, but if you look in the menubarcontacts.xml file they reference the icons differently. NOTE: plugins added on the bottom on the list will be ontop, so if you make layout changes with over lapping buttons, the one to the bottom will be place over the ones on the top of this list.. it seems to me anyway..

now that the plugin is defined, you can edit the actual layout(look) of the menu. if you scroll down you will find the layout names and what not.. and there you need to duplicate the btn0 or 2 and make it say whatever you named your new button.. I named it "btn2" in this example.. and make sure you do it in the proper 240x400 or in the case of the menubar file, 240x320. then 320x240 for landscape.

the button layout definitions will look like so..
"- <Plugin Name="Btn0">
<BoundRect X="0" Y="0" Width="120" Height="40" />
<Rect Name="SelRect" X="50" Y="0" Width="70" Height="40" />
<Rect Name="IconRect" X="50" Y="5" Width="70" Height="32" />
<Point Name="BkNormal" X="0" Y="0" />"

fiddle with the settings.. they seems pretty self explanatory if you know what you are doin..
this is where you have to do some math and figure out the x/y values for all that stuff to get the buttons to be placed where you need them .. hope this helps gettin you guys started.. "

How to get G-Alarm program instead of default alarm? Works BUT you won't be able to access to setting of Clock & Time. A solution to change the time HERE
- Install VJBrisk
- Go in Program files/Vijay555/vjbrisk
- Inside this folder, there are VJBrisk.exe, make a copy of it.
- rename this copy into clock.exe
- replace this new clock.exe into window/

- Go in G-alarm folder
- create a shortcut of G-alarm.exe
- rename it in clocklnk (don't forget the lnk at the end. : clocklnk.lnk)
- Put this shortcut into /windows/
This could work for other applications ! List them :G-Alarm OK; Klaxon OK;
If you need back your original clock.exe, it's HERE

Am I the only one that can't rename, overwrite, delete or move "Windows/clock.exe"!? I've tried Resco file explorer, active sync and Total command but no luck...:(
Access denied...
I really would like to have G-alarm integrated in MS3.
.........help.....:eek:
Probably just me, being stupid as always…

I'm using latest original Swe rom on my Diamond.

Backups: has anyone experimented with the Backup Settings option in SPB MS3? Does it save files such as the .dat ones or just registry settings - menus and widgets?

I am blind as a bat. I cannot find anythign about SPB Backups. Can you point me to where that is at?

[EDIT]
I checked the manual, and it says "From teh SPB Options panel..." and has a picture, showing Backup Settings, Restore Settings etc.

But i cannot find that panel. From Pro screen for exampl, I click the lower right icon, and get these selections: Profiessional layout, Add Widget, Exit layour, Change Background, Calendar Options, and Show Today. Nothing about backup.

maybe my problem is figuring out where the Options panel is. The only place the Optoins Panel name is even used is in the page about backup.

[EDIT2]
OK. I finally found it. You have to go to Settings, then SPB Mobile Shell, Then hit the icon in the lower right corner.
