Hey kaos, any progress on any update you are working on?? :)

He has a beta out which has tablet UI as a feature. It's running well for me as a daily driver for like the past week. There are little bugs here and there, but nothing really major, and nothing that actually impairs performance, just a little with a few of the customization features. If you want to try it out, just shoot him a message.

Is it posible to change soft keys on this rom like on AOKP roms, and make them bigger? It's really great option!
It's probably already been answered somewhere but I can't find it, sorry about that...

No this isn't included in the ROM at the moment i can have a look once i have completed this next beta / release but i cant promise anything as AOKP source is slightly laid out differently (menu wise) which makes it a lot harder to intergrate than other code like PA

I believe it may be possible to manipulate some of the PA options to do what you want, so try that out. If you can make it work in PA, then it'll probably work in the next build.

Re: [ROM] TEAM SHOGUN Kaos Droid V4.0.0 (JOP40D) Android 4.2.1 [ROM]

Sorry for a dead thread I have been working a lot a lately so not had much time for developing the ROM

However I am currently compiling another build based on Android 4.2.2 also at the moment it does not include pa's code as it proved to be quite difficult the last time so once the build is complete it will be sent out for testing

And then I will take another look into pa's source but just a note on this it is not based on cm so this might take some time to get working

I get to work on this ROM only on Saturdays as this is the only day I have off so updates won't be as frequent as they have been in the past

Thank you for your patience

Is this thread still working? I can't see anything past mid February. I'm glad to see the ROM is still being developed though! :)

Hmm ... is there some other forum that everybody moved too???

Also my logcat keeps showing up with a glgps error of some sort:

D/gpsd ( 3296): main()
D/gpsd ( 3296): argv[0] = '/system/bin/glgps'
D/gpsd ( 3296): argv[1] = '-c'
D/gpsd ( 3296): argv[2] = '/system/etc/gps/gpsconfig.xml'

And if I try to run glgps by hand -either with the "-c /system/etc/gps/gpsconfig.xml" arguments or without .. I get a segmentation fault. Does anybody else get this?

I'm not sure if this is related to my difficulties with locking up and random reboots lately.... :(

The developer took on a full time job that is keeping him pretty busy, but he does work on the ROM from time to time. I think there is not much going on in this forum because he left us with a very stable ROM.

@ailima Not sure why your log cat is getting the errors. I just did a full wipe and installed 5.1.1 yesterday trouble free. I would attempt doing multiple wipes which I know sounds dumb but with TWRP I wipe 3 times in a row for cache, dalvik, system and reset to factory, to ensure there are no problems, sounds like a myth but it worked on my One S which was giving me flashing troubles.

I tried the other kernels before, did not have a good experience. I would say give stock a try, you might be surprised. The benchmark is pretty high, higher than most. Also the ROM and games are smooth with it.

    Introduction
    Hi all,

Based on AOSPAL, as always KaosDroid will be compiled from source, I sometimes do add features from other sources, just post on G+ if you want something adding.

This ROM is based around my needs with a little extra.

This ROM is not only based around my needs, its also built around the community's needs. In the past if they have asked for something to be included or changed in the ROM it has been done.

I have made my own GAPPS and its placed in the gapps directory of my goo.im folder. Its not that much different from the one that AOSPA has, It Includes all the common Google Apps and some extras. It is updated every time i upload a new ROM making sure that all the gapps are up to date.

I dont mind any critism at all as long as its constructive, any ideas are also welcome!

    FAQ
Some of these questions have never been asked but if youv'e thought of them or ever wondered why, here they are

Q: Why is this ROM so big when others are about 120MB in size?
A: CyanogenMod alone is 220MB. When you add all my options it gets quite large, e.g. Launchers, Browsers, Kernels and Tweaks, e.g. True Tablet UI, Stock Nav Bar, Alternative Themes, then there's apps like Adobe Flash, BBC iPlayer and a root file explorer.

Q: Have you thought of cutting the size of your ROM down by removing apps such as Flash Player and the root file explorer?
A: I have, But then it means side loading or re-downloading them, possibly setting permissions and alot more time to set up the ROM as you want it, plus its easier to have it all in one place, saves on backup storage, and if you don't want them, don't select them, thats why the options are there.

Q: Why have you changed your base from AOSP to CyanogenMod?
A: Basically CyanogenMod has fixes when it comes to bugs, loopholes and security issues, whereas AOSP doesn't have as many, its not updated as frequent, and doesn't have the CM team behind it!

Q: Can you add support for "this" or add "that" mod?
A: Yes, its usually not an issue, post the request in the thread or pm me, i will add the request to the OP, and add it in the next update, unless its slightly more complicated like gesture support, this will take time and therefore will be added a few versions later.

Q: Why so many releases so often?
A: Simple version: I lost my job and i like to learn
Not so simple version: With Android there is and always will be updates, fixes, customisations and mods that i and the community would like. I try to keep on top of these adding them in and updating regulary to keep the ROM up-to-date, also you get requests, so you add them and release the update, it keeps the community happy and your ROM up-to-date with the latest fixes and customisations that everyone wants.

Q: Why is there some bugs in almost every version?
A: Bugs are like rats, your never more than 10 feet away from one of them (10 lines of code in this case), there are going to be bugs in every ROM no matter how good the developer is. For example, in V3.6/3.6.1 there was an issue with the lockscreen not saving shortcuts, this was an issue with my ROM and any other ROM based on CM for that matter, i cannot help this, it is a CM issue, i have bugs and fixes to deal with that are on my side of the work, if i have time then yes, i will have a look at the issue try to fix it and if i do pass the findings on to the deleloper(s). Also remember that ROM's are always under development, even stable releases.

Q: What make Kaos Droid so special?
A: Besides me? The COMMUNITY! Kaos Droid was originally based around my needs and customisations and what i want. Not only that but the community has a lot of input in Kaos Droid, if they ask for a MOD, customisation or support for something it gets added which also makes the rom perfect for their needs, Kaos Droid started of as a small ROM the community spoke and the community got, its as simple as that.

Q: Why are you including requests from the community for somthing you don't or might not use?
A: Simple there are people/users out there that either don't know how or dont have the time to build a cusom ROM, and why not include the requests 99% of the time i actually use them, i have not had one request yet that i haven't used or thought it shouldn't be included.

Q: What's you aim for Kaos Droid?
A: That's easy: reliability, speed, customisation and hopefully being the best

Q: What made you decide to start building a custom ROM?
A: I liked the work other Dev's were doing and what they achived, so I thought to myself if they can do it so can I.

    Ok, A little status update

i am currently uploading Kaos Droid V3.8.3 which will be the last version based on Android 4.1.2

Also i'm in the middle of downloading Android 4.2 (CM based)

this will take a while to get working correctly

Before anyone asks about the new tablet ui in Android 4.2, i have briefly discussed with dstryrwiz about trying to keep the Tablet UI from 4.1.2, so for those wondering there will obviously be the standard UI for 7" Tablets (default) along with hopefully both the old and new Tablet UI's

Other than the current Mods, and features getting ported over this will be the only addition and i will start taking requests again after the first build is complete

As for those that do not want the Android 4.2 update Kaos Droid V3.8.3 (Android 4.1.2) will remain available to download alongside of Android 4.2

Hopefully if everything goes to plan with work and the actual time i get to myself there will be a beta available by the weekend :)
    7
Kaos Droid V3.8.0 is now ready for download :)

this doesn't help you re: gapps selection, but i'm cool w/ whatever method you select.

on an unrelated note, i just wanted to say i'm really liking this ROM and it's now my go-to/daily driver. has everything i want/need and then some, is quite responsive, battery life seems fine, deep sleeps like an infant on Tylenol (kidding, about the Tylenol). one particular thing that keeps me here is the option to enable tablet status bar (bottom of screen) while retaining the more easily readable stock (?) dpi which I assume is 213. 160 is nice but for my use it makes things just a tad too small to be quickly/easily readable w/o some extra eye focusing :) i tried the Force Tablet UI option but it seems to whack the display of the home screen @ least when using Nova launcher (it cuts off the bottom of the screen so you can't see the dock - no big deal as I rarely use the tablet in landscape anyway).

the only real issue I encountered during install was when I tried to select the Trinity kernel during the Aroma install. it kept getting stuck @ the Google logo, despite waiting it out 15+ minutes. as soon as I re-did the install and selected the default kernel option, it booted up within a minute or 2 of the boot logo being displayed.

thanks for this excellent ROM. looking forward to the beta, which of course I plan on trying out :)

I believe i have fixed the issue with trinity kernel in this version, i will test just t find out and if the issue still persists i will let you know otherwise it will be included in the rom

Does this mean we will need to erase our boot img to get this new ROM to work?

In regards to gapps. I found for my old phone the developer had it set up where you could select what Google programs you wanted, I would always select Play Store and the mail program. Then I would go into Google Play Store and download the rest I wanted like Maps and Google Search, Chrome, Youtube etc.

Made the ROM nice and small as I don't use things like Earth, Currents, Play Books, Movie Studio and so on. I can't speak for everyone else but if it's free from the Play Store I don't see the point of having it included in the ROM package unless it helps others save on data or something.

Asfor formatting the boot.img this is not neccassary i just tried it does seem that everything else is needed to be done if coming from stock 4.2 or android 4.1.2

As for gapps the only reason that all the gapps is included is i use most of them and i could do with that extra bit of space however what i have decided to do is include the default gapps available from goo.im and create a seperate zip with the rest in them for myself / others with selectable options that will install them to the system partition also Google Chrome will remain as an option in aroma

Hope this helps everyone also the Android 4.1.2 tablet ui will be included in the next version, this is just a "source / upgrade". all requests / promises such as the android 4.1.2 Tablet UI will be included in the next version after this release
