Perhaps it's because I installed SuperSU and deleted Superuser.

I found it

its in:

system/xbin

but I cannot get it to delete, I keep getting the read only error.

I did mount it as r/w so I dont know why I cannot delete it....

After uninstalling superuser and installing supersu I still had the locked message.

That went away after a few reboots though...... so no more message, just the 'custom' message under device status......

I'm uploading a video right now. Give me a few to post it. It shows how to remove icon and keep root. And how to fully unroot too.

Use root explorer, delete busybox
Back up all data on the internal memory.
Turn off the device.
Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time:

Volume Up key
Home key
Power key.

When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
Press the Volume down key to highlight 'wipe data / factory reset.'
Press Power button to select.
Press the Volume down key to highlight 'delete all user data.'
Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
When the master reset is complete, 'Reboot system now' is highlighted.
Press the Power key to turn the restart the device.

Then the icon will be gone

This fixed my problem thank you so much pale A++++
