ok guys, i'm ready to start beta testing the new app! the beta will initially only be available to current users of the paid version of UWW. if you own UWW and want to help beta test the app, PM me with the same email address you used to buy UWW with. however, before you do, read everything below carefully.
i'm going to try out google's brand new beta testing functionality on google play. you will get the beta directly from google play. the beta will only be visible to members of my google+ community, which i will invite you to when you give me your email address. if you don't use google+, you'll have to sign up. sorry, but that's how google set this beta testing service up.
one interesting thing about google's beta program is that i can't make it free. since the app will be a paid app, and you can't ever switch an app from free to paid in google play, the beta has to be paid. i'll make it as cheap as google allows me to: $0.99. this actually solves the problem i discussed earlier of how to give existing users of UWW a discount on the new app. if you're a paid user of Unlock With WiFi, you can join the beta and get it for $0.99. when beta testing is over, the beta will convert into the full version, and you will not have to buy it again. so by joining the beta, you're essentially pre-purchasing the new app. i like this because it will help ensure that i only get beta testers who already know the app, and are serious about wanting to help find bugs in the beta.
just to be clear, this is a BETA, and it is unfinished. there will be bugs, and some menu options currently do nothing. it's a work in progress, and i need beta testers to report bugs. you can report bugs in this thread, via PM, or via email. when you report a bug, please attach the log file, named Unlocker.log, which you can find on your sdcard.
unlock with bluetooth is working! the UI part of it is not finished though. you must have bluetooth already enabled (on) in order to add a bluetooth device. in the future, the app will turn BT on for you.
because of the weird way android handles BT, the app cannot check if you are currently connected to a bluetooth device. crazy, right? the app can only get messages that a BT device connected or disconnected. it can't check if any are currently connected. that means that after you add a BT device, you have to turn BT off and on in order for the app to see that it's connected. after that, unlocking with BT should work just like unlocking with wifi does.
there's another new feature: when unlocked, you can tap on the unlocked notification, and it will immediately lock the device. this feature was suggested by a clever user a while ago. i forget who, but thanks to whoever it was.
