*MEXICAN USERS, PLEASE SKIP TO PART 4*

The following is for Canadian Note 3 users - model number N900W8. Please do not attempt the following on ANY other device (including the N900T). I am not responsible for your phone or any damages, so perform at your own risk.

[PART ONE - UPGRADE FROM 4.3 TO 4.4.2 STOCK]

1. Download the following Stock TelCel (Mexican) 4.4.2 files.

http://pc.cd/7kH (AP - System)
http://pc.cd/gXH (BL - Bootloader)
http://pc.cd/K7H (PIT - Repartition)

2. Download the following Canadian modem and CSC.

3. Download Odin 3.09.

4. Backup important files to your computer and boot into download mode (hold HOME+VOLUME DOWN during boot).

5. Plug the phone into your computer, preferably with the cable that came with the phone.

6. Open Odin 3.09 and load the 5 files you just downloaded into their corresponding spots.

7. UNCHECK Re-Partition. Make sure Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are CHECKED.

8. Click start and wait for it to finish.

*Notes*
-This will factory reset your device.
-There has been some controversy over whether to leave Re-Partition checked or unchecked. Try unchecked first, then checked if it doesn't boot up.
-If you are having problems, try booting into recovery (hold HOME+VOLUME UP during boot) and factory resetting your device and restarting.
-If you boot and find bloatware from a different carrier or something isn't working, open the dialer and type *#272*YOURIMEI# and change your CSC to the appropriate carrier. This will factory reset your phone.
-We have the ability to revert back to 4.3 (flashing stock 4.3 rom in Odin), but the method isn't concrete. You should be ready to stay on 4.4.2 if you are going to flash it.
-If you are having issues writing to the SD Card, take a look at this thread - http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=2617921

[PART TWO - ROOT AND CUSTOM RECOVERY]

1. Download Chainfire's CF-Auto-Root file.

2. Load into Odin 3.09's AP section and flash in download mode.

3. Download BigBiff's N900W8 TWRP recovery OR Chenglu's CWM recovery.

4. Load into Odin 3.09's AP section and flash in download mode.

*Notes*
-Assume this will trip Knox warranty to 0x1. Some users have reported otherwise, but just be ready for it.

__________________________________________________

[PART THREE - CUSTOM 4.4.2 ROM AND KERNEL + WIFI/NFC FIX]

1. Download your favourite custom 4.4.2 rom from the N9005 forums.

2. Download custom (N900T) 4.4.2 kernel.

3. Download the WIFI/NFC fix (NB7 Source)

4. Place files on SD card. Some roms are known to wipe your internal storage.

5. Boot into TWRP Recovery and wipe system, data, cache, and dalvik cache.

6. Install custom rom, kernel, and WIFI/NFC fix, then reboot.

*Notes*
-A custom rom alone will break WIFI and NFC, follow these instructions to install a custom rom and fix connectivity.
-The stock kernel caused connectivity issues on custom roms, use CivZ's custom kernel

[PART FOUR - MEXICAN USERS]

1. Complete PART ONE using these files instead of the ones above.

http://pc.cd/7kH (AP - System)
http://pc.cd/gXH (BL - Bootloader)
http://pc.cd/dXH (CP - Modem)
http://pc.cd/K7H (PIT - Repartition)
http://pc.cd/97H (CSC - Carrier Specific Code)

2. Complete PART TWO of this post. (Root and install TWRP)

3. Make a full nandroid backup via TWRP

4. Complete PART THREE of this post (custom rom, kernel, and fix).

5. To fix connectivity, boot into recovery and restore ONLY the EFS files and the modem from the nandroid you made and reboot.

Thought this should branch off into its own thread.

I've managed to successfully install 4.4.2 onto my Rogers Note 3. I extracted the modem and CSC from the latest Rogers 4.3 and flashed with Odin 3.09 along with TelCel (Mexican) files below.

Use the PIT, BL, and AP from this website --> http://androidmx.net/2014/01/actualiza-tu-galaxy-note-3-n900w8-a-kitkat-4-4-2/
Use the CP and CSC from here --> https://www.mediafire.com/?5ww5zzb2s501njt

There is a little bit of controversy on this...but I did NOT have re-partition checked in Odin. I would try having it unchecked first, and play around after if you have issues.

Rooted with --> http://download.chainfire.eu/352/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-hlte-hltexx-smn9005.zip
Flash in Odin 3.09 using AP.

Happy flashing!

And what kernel was used to accomplish this? And have you tried to go back to 4.3 with this procedure?

Stock kernel, Mexican and Canadian variants are both N900W8.

I was able to flash back to stock 4.3 with Odin a couple times last night. I will do it one more time and confirm with you though.

I am impressed, nice work. So stock kernel, and you for sure can go back to 4.3? I believe you, but, wow. Try once more please, as this could and can be bad if it has not been tested. Thank you sir for you work and info.

Just successfully flashed back to stock Rogers 4.3.

Flashed stock via odin, first boot was hanging so I factory reset in recovery. Works fine now.

this is probably more wishful thinking than any real hope of it having happened yet - but I have to join the hordes to ask the one question - has anyone flashed on TMOBILE Sucessfully yet? (Intellectually I am sure I know the answer - but I feel compelled to ask the question just the same).. :)

Use Canadian Multi CSC-->http://www.mediafire.com/download/xn11kh614eag7ir/Canadian Multi CSC.tar (change CSC - Open dialer --> *#272*YOURIMEI# --> will factory reset)

There is a little bit of controversy on this...but I did NOT have re-partition checked in Odin.

Turn off Reactivation Lock.
CWM Recovery --> http://d-h.st/users/xiaolu/?fld_id=31400
Flash in Odin 3.09 using AP.

Happy flashing!

Edit: Should note that both Canadian and Mexican variants are N900W8.

Edit 2: I flashed my sisters Note 3 with this method. Re-partition unchecked, worked perfectly. It was running stock 4.3.

Should this work with the tmobile n900t if I use the latest tmobile modem and csc with the methods outlined in your post?

How to check whether your N900W8's KNOX can be tripped!

Lineux as long as you rooted and have a recovery installed you would have a very tough time tripping knox.

For that matter has anyone with a n900w8 even tripped Knox?

Sent from my SM-N900W8 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

Good reference post right here for most Canadians.

All 4.3 N900W8 bootloaders are normal bootloaders and will trip when it detects any modification.

All 4.4.2 N900W8 bootloaders are unable to be tripped when doing just rooting and installing custom recovery.
-> The leaked Mexican bootloader allows you to avoid tripping the bootloader even through a downgrade of 4.4.2 to 4.3.
-> Canadian 4.4.2 bootloaders will trip if you attempt any downgrade to 4.3. This is the only issue.
-> You can flash a different modem, a different ROM base (AOSP and not TW), CSC, Kernel, Recovery and NOT trip KNOX on any devices.

    N900W8 4.3 vulnerable bootloaders: MI5, MJ1, MJ4
    N900W8 4.4.2 invulnerable bootloaders: MEXICAN NA2
    N900W8 4.4.2 semi-invulnerable bootloaders: NB7

    Vulnerable: Trippable
Invulnerable: Untrippable under any circumstances while running the bootloader loaded phone.
Semi-invulnerable: Trippable under one condition (can be ignored if you don't plan to downgrade)

For the people running MI5, MJ1 vulnerable bootloaders (excluding MJ4) -> I suggest using URDLV to root without tripping KNOX: http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?p=46818375
For the people running MI5, MJ1 and MJ4 vulnerable bootloaders -> You can (also) use Kingo root to root, however as this is a fondly avoided app, as the first version sent your IMEI to a server in China, this is not recommended, so move down one option, or use URDLV is you are MI5 or MJ1.
For the people running MJ4 vulnerable bootloader -> I suggest following THIS CURRENT GUIDE to get your phone to 4.4.2, so you get the Mexican bootloader to be free of all KNOX and it's dread. (Highly recommended)
For the people running NB7 semi-invulnerable bootloader -> You are free to root, custom ROM flash, replace your kernel, modem updating through Odin, etc. Just do not attempt to downgrade if you want to preserve KNOX.

Q: But but but, what if I.....
A: NA2 bootloader? Nothing you do can touch your bootloader UNLESS you intentionally upgrade your phone through KIES or Odin. These are the only two tools that is able to touch your bootloader. Everything you do will preserve KNOX.

    Q: How about.....
A: NA2 bootloader? You are safe. Stop worrying about sh*t.

EDIT: MADE A NEW THREAD: http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?p=53632129

Speaking of kernels, not that I care that much, but I'm running civz 1.9, and realized recently my nfc doesn't turn on. Yes I've flashed the wifi/nfc fix, and I'm not sure if it ever worked back with 1.2. Can anyone off any insight?
I'm on snapkat now,1.2 was kat turbine, not sure if that's the cause, no problems otherwise.

Sent from my SM-N900W8 using xda app-developers app

Hmm, I haven't had any problems (running x-note 10 with snapkat 2.0). Not the most elegant solution but I would recommend installing fresh.

Yeah it would most likely be beneficial for you n900w8 users to actually put in capital bold print not for tmobile users as the first line(even in the title). You should cover every base possible.Yes, just stating canadian note 3 obviously isnt enough because we have used other carriers methods for ourselves since day one. Otherwise tmobile users will keep stumbling into your thread within our own thread ha. This needs to be done because our devices are so similar people will do what I have and assume that this also works across both devices like past rooting methods etc without doing enough research. Not to mention the fact that a lot of devices had to use another regions rom to upgrade to kitkat. Also some carrier note 3s(tmobile for sure) can cross flash roms from a plethora of different carriers. Lastly you cant react badly if a tmobile user enters a thread your utilizing within our own subforums and does something bad and has to post(ie ME). This will only lead to you guys getting an abut face and flamed out of the forum by half of the tmobile community who isnt as nice or caring as I am. I understand you utilizing these forums is very beneficial. Hopefully we can all play nice on xda. I desire all to work out well for the n900w8 community.

@flashcity90, I appreciate your views. Many of us with the N900W8 would love our own forum. We've had users ask and it hasn't happened. Regardless of what methods used, I think the main goal of XDA is to promote development. If we shun users, we start to lose potential great minds that may contribute to the community in the future. Being able to set up a thread in the T-Mobile forums has enabled us to have 70+ pages of discussion, and inspired people to get to know more about their device.

My blatant sarcasm is towards the people who so quickly dismiss us based on model number (and lets be honest, nationality). The misplaced sense of entitlement and poor attitude in a community about sharing is detrimental. We are neighbouring countries with carriers that interact quite a bit. It's not far-fetched to think the next big thing in mobile devices will be have same model number, at which point everyone will benefit.

Thanks for your input, and level-headed responses.

    Updater-script

After talking to Tiffany84, there is a way to modify the updater script of these roms so that they do not wipe the int sd.
It's supposedly as simple as removing the pre load wipe in the script. I tried doing this myself on the pc, then loading to the phone. I did the basic wipes as per the xnote op, and tried installing but it failed immediately in twrp. Good news is my backup worked! Maybe someone with more knowledge than I, almost anyone, could help with this? Oogar? Mixxy?

Sent from my SM-N900W8 using xda app-developers app

    1. Download X-Note, open .zip with winRAR or 7zip.
    2. Navigate to META-INF\com\google\android
    3. Drag updater-script to desktop and open in Notepad++ (http://notepad-plus-plus.org)
    4. Delete the following... http://imgur.com/F7rdFCo
    5. Save (make sure you save as the same format - just click save and not save as)
    6. Drag back into same directory and overwrite the previous updater-script in the rom .zip

I've attached the file (extract it from the .zip) for the lazy.

    Tested and working.
