my only problem so far

i became excited when i found out about KFFA. my kindle's wifi has recently stopped working so it wont even turn on and i don't know what to do. i figured that i should completely restore my kindle to stock. So i did some tinkering and now when i turn my kindle on the screen immediately turns red. i believe this has something to do a broken bootloader or something. i would love to use your guys' application but when it starts to download the stuff for kindle fire hd 7 it will download boot.img and the recovery.img but it wont download the last one. i let it try to download for nearly 2 hours and still nothing happened.

If you guys need more information i will be glad to help.

I ONLY WANT TO BE ABLE TO USE MY KFHD AGAIN :crying:

MAHkiller: Good day: The good news, is you tablet can be fixed..Bad news is I suspect you will have to get a fastboot cable from Ebay.

What tinkering were you doing that caused the red screen?
You do infact have a Kindle fire HD 7 2012-2013 version (Not the new version introduced in the fall of 2013)you are working with correct?

KFFA utilities do not mess with the bootloader.
Were you trying to install the Second bootloader, and such or just trying to use the restore feature of KFFA

Secondly, at this point, I don't think you can fix the tablet without the fastboot cable which you can order on Ebay for just 4-6 dollars.
The 7" hd tablet in my experience will not go into fastboot without the fastboot cable when it will not boot.
If the tablet boots up normally then a adb usb reboot bootloader command will put the tablet into fastboot but, your unit no longer boots up. If the tablet is rooted, then this command will work when the tablet is booted up normally to where adb works.
adb shell su -c 'reboot bootloader'
If the tablet is not rooted, I have not found any variation of adb reboot bootloader to work on the kindle fire hd 7.

I will try to get a KFHD7 tablet into fastboot using my LINUX machine tonight and confirm, that you need the fastboot cable.
I already know using Windows 7, nothing happens when you issue this command at a DOS prompt with a path to your fastboot.exe file.

Tablet is not connected or connected but completely shut off.
fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product

"Waiting for device" # this is the command prompt response to the above command.

When you then connect the tablet to the PC or if connected and turned off, turn on the tablet.
The fastboot exe will kick in and the red and deep yellow fastboot script will appear on the screen.
I am pretty sure, nothing will happen when you plug the tablet in aside from getting the red screen.

Regards

A lil lost

Krsmqn,

We thought of you when we were developing this package, It took us over 4 months to perfect. We held back many feature, just wait until we release the Production Version of 4.2.3, it even made us smile:D. As we have said before,
we are truly honored to be part of the XDA Community and feel blessed to be able to offer this software to XDA Members. This package and version 4.2.3 is fee based elsewhere.

I recently bricked my kindle fire 2nd gen I'm pretty good with tech but, could use a lil help with this issue. I have ordered a fastboot cable and some other goodies for my bricked kindle fire 2nd gen obviously I'm not gonna give up till I get it working lol. I feel overwhelmed because I don't quite understand the information in the post regarding updating the first aide and I'm wondering if I am seeing this post for the first time what exactly do I need to do? I did root my kindle before I tried the tweezermod which was before I decided I wanted to invest in a fastboot cable.

Install The Latest Version Of Java SE already got it :)

SOFTWARE UPDATE (CRITICAL RELEASE) ON 06/30/2013 Version 4.1.100 - PLEASE DOWNLOAD THE ENTIRE PACKAGE IF YOUR VERSION IS DATED PRIOR TO THIS RELEASE DATE.

WARNING! THIS TOOL CAN PERMANENTLY DAMAGE THE KINDLE IF IT IS NOT USED PROPERLY. DO NOT FLASH THE
KINDLE FIRE 2 IMAGE TO A KINDLE FIRE HD OR FLASH A KINDLE FIRE HD 7" TO A KINDLE FIRE 8.9" DEVICE. THIS
WILL CAUSE PERMANENT DAMAGE THAT CAN NOT BE REVERSED. ONLY FLASH THE CORRECT MODEL SOFTWARE
TO YOUR DEVICE.

Idk if I understand this right but, since I have not downloaded the original first aide the one in the post is the latest available here I assume? (don't wanna make an ass of myself so figured I would ask since I'm unsure)

Kindle Fire First Aide Step 1: Using Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome or Internet Explorer Download Kindle Fire First Aide 4.1.100-Beta:
KFFirstAide.zip (latest file?)

Kindle Fire First Aide Step 4: Find the RunMe.bat file. Right Hand Mouse click on RunMe.bat, select 'Send to', select Desktop (Create Shortcut). Now press the Left Hand Mouse button to create the Shortcut named RunMe.bat. Temporary disable the Android SDK. (how do i temporarily disable android sdk?) Maybe just close the android sdk? But, then again I never saw anywhere saying to open android sdk tools)

Kindle Fire First Aide Step 8: Please click on the Windows Key plus Pause/Break, this will display the Windows System Properties. Next Click on the Advanced Tab and find "Environment Variables". Please click on Environment Variables and find the Path Statement. Carefully add at the end of the Path Statement:

Code:
;C:\KFFirstAide (which path thing is the path statement the one that metions java se 7 or the one listed as just path?

Thats as far as I figure I can go till my cable gets here my kindle fire 2nd gen currenty shows the Kindle Fire then goes to the red screen right after. Also I would love if if someone would be willing to walk me through this if I get stuck on anything else.

First time ever posting on a forum, first time using a kindle and any of these tools. I did manage to root my kindle fire 2nd gen before but, thats because even a monkey can follow instructions.... sometimes :) haha, then again I did that with the tweezermod too wonder where I made a mistake?

Anyway thanks alot! -blue

ps. forgot I also did not backup my kindle fire 2nd gen before trying the mod so I prolly need what would it be called? An image? a rom? I only rooted it because I wanted to use my emulators on it and that all went great now I wanted it to be a jellybean. There is way to much info out there can anyone simplify the process?

Good afternoon:

You are in good shape but, you will likely still need your fastboot cable.
The reason is that the KF2 and the KFHD7 have what is called a passive bootloader I think (might have the terms mixed up)
The 8.9 will easily go into fastboot by executing the command fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product or any other fastboot command.
The prompt will wait until you turn on the tablet and the tablet will get into fastboot mode.
The KFHD7 and the KF2 do not do this on boot.
These two tablets will go into fastboot if rooted with the command adb su -c 'reboot bootloader'
Thus, if your tablet will boot up fully such that adb works, you can use adb to get into fastboot.
If your tablet will not boot, then you need the fastboot cable to get the tablet into fastboot.

Once into fastboot, you can then use the KFFA utility to manipulate and or fix the tablet.

Now, to get KFFA working, you are quite correct with your various presumptions:
If you download V100, you have it all (no need to read about upgrading)
If you have java, you are also all set.
You are simply creating a shortcut to the RunMe.bat script by setting up a shortcut on the desktop.
You don't really need to worry about SDK since it is not running unless you issue SDK commands.
If you have the KFFA path added into the environment variables, your dos commands and KFFU scripts should not be finding their way to your SDK tools.
Regarding path, you are adding the path to the KFFA to your windows environment variables so that adb and fastboot work regardless of which folder your are in. You are editing the Windows system section and not the KFFirstAide section as you presumed.
Another way to get to environment is this:
Start /Right click computer/advanced system settings/Environment Variables/System variables/Path
Scroll or slide your way to the very right most end of the path statement that is already in the Path window and add the KFFA path as follows:
C:\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;c:\Program Files\WIDCOMM\Bluetooth Software\;c:\Program Files\WIDCOMM\Bluetooth Software\syswow64;C:\KFFirstAide;
Showing the KFFA path added to the end of the environment variable string above.
I think you should make sure the last semi-colon ends the statement as shown above.
This example presumes you have placed the KFFA V100 utility in the root of the C: as C:\KFFirstAide

Once you have a good path statement, you will see that regardless of what folder you are setting in, you can enter adb or fastboot in the dos prompt and return and see the various adb or fastboot help screens.
Several of the KFFA commands can issue the fastboot commands to put the tablet into fastboot mode but, will not work on the KF2 and KFHD7 tablets as explained earlier so, you need to get the tablet into fastboot first using the fastboot cable.

Thank you

Thanks alot that clears up alot okay so I tested the adb connection yep I need my fastboot cable but it will be here soon. My path is %SystemRoot%\system32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\Modules\;C:\KFFirstAide; now I have the folder as KFFirstAide in my C drive and extracted the contents to the folder. Is that the correct setup? Is there a way I can test it? Maybe sending a ABD? or First Aide command from a random folder? I tried opening it and trying adb and pushing enter and nothing happened does hat mean anything? lol

Everything else seems to be ready. So once I know if the path is correct would it be safe to assume I'm pretty much just waiting to connect the cable and follow the prompts for the first aide program?

Knowledge is power thanks for helping me absorb some of this easier!

If your path statement is correct, it will display as below when you type path at a DOS prompt:
C:\Users\z479091>path
PATH=C:\Program Files (x86)\RSA SecurID Token Common;c:\KFFirstAide;
C:\Users\z479091>

If you do not see the KFFA at the end, then you did not click all the "OK"s when you were editing.
You often have to reboot the PC to get the new path to take place.

Fastboot example:

C:\Users\z479091\>fastboot
usage: fastboot [ <option> ] <command>

commands:
update <filename> reflash device from update.zip
flashall flash boot + recovery + system
flash <partition> [ <filename> ] write a file to a flash partition
erase <partition> erase a flash partition
getvar <variable> display a bootloader variable
boot <kernel> [ <ramdisk> ] download and boot kernel
flash:raw boot <kernel> [ <ramdisk> ] create bootimage and flash it
devices list all connected devices
reboot reboot device normally
reboot-bootloader reboot device into bootloader
imcflash <filename> update IMC modem firmware

options:
-w erase userdata and cache
-s <serial number> specify device serial number
-p <product> specify product name
-c <cmdline> override kernel commandline
-i <vendor id> specify a custom USB vendor id
-b <base_addr> specify a custom kernel base address
-n <page size> specify the nand page size. default:
2048

Once your path is correct, you will be able to type ADB or fastboot any place and see the above help screens.
The adb and fastboot exe files are in the KFFA root folder.

Thank you for getting back to me quickly.
that's good my kindle can still be fixed and as i noted in my post i do have a FastBoot cable, i did buy it from amazon for $15 dollars with 5 shipping. now that i know it is a whole lot cheaper on Ebay i should have gone there :(
i was trying to install a second Bootloader onto my kindle fire HD which i do believe is the 2012 version because my parents got it for me last year in April. I'm not quite sure though so how do i tell?
I am also using windows XP on my computer and do know how to properly work the cmd prompt.

Thank you, hope you get back soon because this is becoming extremely frustrating for me.

Yes: You do have the last year's model so, you are OK.
You probably forgot to install the stack override.
Did you use Fireflash11.apk to do the 2nd boot operation?

The stack check box is easy to overlook.

Once you get the fastboot cable you will then be able to use KFFA to restore (Actually reflashing the boot, recovery and system partitions).

KFFA downloads the correct files from the web each time you do a restore so, you have to have the PC connected to the Internet.

yes, i was using fireflash to install the 2nd boot. but you see that is my only problem when i use KFFA i go through the process
i start by selecting the kindle fire hd 7", the i completly restore by pressing 1 because it is the most recent version, then i tell it wipe all user data only and i dont care by this because there is nothing on it anyways, then i tell it not to fastboot because my kindle is already in fastboot, then it just doesnt download the last thing.

Thanks; This thread is getting confusing because multiple folks are having similar issues.
I forgot about the download issue.
I will try to download the restore files myself and see if the system partition will download.
Remember this partition is 900MB which is huge....

I checked the KFFA utility and the download site is completely messed up so, not your problem:

I have the files you need on my dropbox site but, instead of trusting me, look up this utility on XDA and use it instead of KFFA.
You need to do one job at this time which is to restore the tablet.
This utility does one job. It restores the KFHD7 images for you.
I did not mention it earlier since you already has the KFFA utility but since the restore function is broken, find this utility here:

http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1951254

KFHD_SRTv1.3.5

This utility is a zip file which actually contains the files you need so, is also a huge 1.+GB zip file.
The OS version is 7.3.0 but, at least will work.
You will need to erase cache and data since your running version is much newer than 7.3.0 (One of the menu items)

My suggestion is:

1: Get back up on 7.3.0

2: Then put all the files you need on the sdcard images, etc for OS's and all the 2ndboot images.....everything you can think of.
Hashcode's 7.4.3OS.zip file (Prerooted OS), or CM10.1 or, whatever OS you want in a zip form.
3: Install fireflash11.apk again then 2nd bootloader again and don't forget the stack checkbox or anything else........
4: Once you have 2ndbootloader installed, boot into recovery and flash 7.4.3OS.zip or, cm10.1, etc.

Note: If you get Hashcode's 7.4.3OS.zip OS files, you should use the kfhd7-freedom-boot-7.4.3.img file so it matches Hashcode's 7.4.3OS.zip version. Otherwise you will be able to get to recovery but, will not be able to boot up to the OS.
Flashing Hashcode's 7.4.3OS.zip is pre-rooted and OTA is blocked so, all the work is already done for you.
You can go ahead and put both freedomboot 7.4.3 and 7.4.6 on the sdcard while you are at it
(part of getting anything you think you might need on the tablet so in case of trouble you have what you need)

Did you mean bootloader image?
The bootloader you already have?

This restore utility has boot, recovery, and system which is what you need.
If you look in the unzipped folder you will find all three files...
KFFA also has all three files.
Remember if you flash the three 7.3.0 files from the restore utility and do not clear cache and data, you will not be able to boot up because your original OS was much newer.

This utility is just a bunch of command line flash commands.
You can do this all at the command prompt if you read the .bat script.....

Awesome. Thanks.

That clears things up alot! Thank you galearned! I'm still waiting on my cable it will probably come later today or monday as it is 5:45 am. I'm playing Kotor 2 and Digimon masters till I get my tablet back up. :). Thanks again! I'll get in touch if I have anymore issues with the process.

If your path statement is correct, it will display as below when you type path at a DOS prompt:
C:\Users\z479091>path
PATH=C:\Program Files (x86)\RSA SecurID Token Common;c:\KFFirstAide;
C:\Users\z479091>

If you do not see the KFFA at the end, then you did not click all the "OK"s when you were editing.
You often have to reboot the PC to get the new path to take place.

Fastboot example:

C:\Users\z479091\>fastboot
usage: fastboot [ <option> ] <command>

commands:
update <filename> reflash device from update.zip
flashall flash boot + recovery + system
flash <partition> [ <filename> ] write a file to a flash partition
erase <partition> erase a flash partition
getvar <variable> display a bootloader variable
boot <kernel> [ <ramdisk> ] download and boot kernel
flash:raw boot <kernel> [ <ramdisk> ] create bootimage and flash it
devices list all connected devices
reboot reboot device normally
reboot-bootloader reboot device into bootloader
imcflash <filename> update IMC modem firmware

options:
-w erase userdata and cache
-s <serial number> specify device serial number
-p <product> specify product name
-c <cmdline> override kernel commandline
-i <vendor id> specify a custom USB vendor id
-b <base_addr> specify a custom kernel base address
-n <page size> specify the nand page size. default:
2048

Once your path is correct, you will be able to type ADB or fastboot any place and see the above help screens.
The adb and fastboot exe files are in the KFFA root folder.

JD95: Good day:
Remember that the KFHD7" tablet will not get into fastboot by using the fastboot commands like the KF1 and the KFHD8.9.
The KF2 and KFHD7 have passive bootloader? (not sure of descriptor) but you will need a fastboot cable.
All the utilities use the "ADB reboot bootloader" or, "adb reboot-bootloader" command to put this tablet into fastboot.
The problem is that the Kindle OS does not respond to these commands at all.
If you have the hascode 2nd bootloader installed, then these commands will work, thus the utilities all work.

If your tablet is in trouble and does not boot, or boots but, does not have a good working 2nd bootloader, then the adb commands to put the tablet into fastboot simply will not work.

In these cases, the fastboot cable is needed to physically put the tablet into fastboot.

One other consideration (happens now and then) is whether the micro usb connector is defective?
If the connector is good you will be able to see the internal sdcard on the PC file manger.
If the connector is defective, then sdcard, adb and fastboot will not work at all.
The fastboot cable will still be able to put the tablet into fastboot because it uses the power pins and not the communication pins.

Once the tablet is in fastboot with the cable and the connector is good, then the utilities will work....

I have attached a screen capture of a good working tablet and PC showing what windows device manager looks like and what the dos prompt returns to you if you query the tablet using adb devices command (tablet booted up normally) and fastboot (after using the fastboot cable) to show the tablet responses as seen in the PC dos prompt window.

The big problem is that if you tablet is in trouble, adb might not work and if there is no working 2nd bootloader, no fastboot either without the fastboot cable. As you can see, this makes a strong case for having a fastboot cable ($1 to $5 on Ebay)

Having a little trouble with the environment variables I typed path into my cmd.

Having a little trouble with the environment variables I typed path into my cmd and it said quite alot... Okay so in my environment variables I have "CLASSPATH", "Path", "PATHEXIT", and "PSModulePath". I'm not sure if I'm adding it in wrong or what... %SystemRoot%\system32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\Modules\ is my my "PSModulePath" I added ;C:\KFFirstAide; am I adding this to the wrong path am I supposed to add it to "Path" ? My cable came today :)

If your path statement is correct, it will display as below when you type path at a DOS prompt:
C:\Users\z479091>path
PATH=C:\Program Files (x86)\RSA SecurID Token Common;c:\KFFirstAide;
C:\Users\z479091>

If you do not see the KFFA at the end, then you did not click all the "OK"s when you were editing.
You often have to reboot the PC to get the new path to take place.

Fastboot example:

C:\Users\z479091\>fastboot
usage: fastboot [ <option> ] <command>

commands:
update <filename> reflash device from update.zip
flashall flash boot + recovery + system
flash <partition> [ <filename> ] write a file to a flash partition
erase <partition> erase a flash partition
getvar <variable> display a bootloader variable
boot <kernel> [ <ramdisk> ] download and boot kernel
flash:raw boot <kernel> [ <ramdisk> ] create bootimage and flash it
devices list all connected devices
reboot reboot device normally
reboot-bootloader reboot device into bootloader
imcflash <filename> update IMC modem firmware

options:
-w erase userdata and cache
-s <serial number> specify device serial number
-p <product> specify product name
-c <cmdline> override kernel commandline
-i <vendor id> specify a custom USB vendor id
-b <base_addr> specify a custom kernel base address
-n <page size> specify the nand page size. default:
2048

Once your path is correct, you will be able to type ADB or fastboot any place and see the above help screens.
The adb and fastboot exe files are in the KFFA root folder.

way, this took us weeks to perfect, so please respect the code. If you have recommendations, please post them,
we love to give you the feature that are important to YOU not us.

Kindle Fire First Aide Step 1: Using Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome or Internet Explorer Download Kindle Fire First Aide 4.1.100-Beta:
    KFFirstAide.zip

Note: Be sure to extract the package to C:\KFFirstAide

Update Java To The Latest Version here: Java SE Development Kit 7u25

Kindle Fire First Aide Step 2: Using either 7-Zip or Microsoft Zip, unzip the KFFirstAide100.zip to your C:\ Drive as C:\KFFirstAide

Kindle Fire First Aide Step 3: With your mouse, open the C:\KFFirstAide contents by double mouse clicking the C:\KFFirstAide folder

Kindle Fire First Aide Step 5: Find the RunMe Shortcut on your desktop, select it by left mouse click over the icon, then while on the icon choose Right Hand mouse click, select Properties.

Kindle Fire First Aide Step 6: This will display the RunMe properties. Select the General Tab, change the top name to KF First Aide. Then click on the Shortcut tab, click on Advanced. Check 'Run as Administrator', click OK, then click Apply, then click OK. All windows should be closed.

Kindle Fire First Aide Step 7: Double Mouse Click the new Icon named KF First Aide. You may be presented with a security window, just click Yes.

    Code:
    ;C:\KFFirstAide

Note: Do Not forget the (;) semi-colon before the C:\KFFirstAide

Kindle Fire First Aide Step 9: That is it! The software is ready. Next we get the Kindle ready to Flash.

Kindle Fire First Aide Step 10: Next, go to the Kindle, pull down the status menu, select More+ then select Security, make sure Enable ADB is ON. Last, depress the <- and select Device. Make sure 'Allow Installation of Applications' is On.

Kindle Fire First Aide Step 11: Insert the Original USB Cable to the Kindle, please ensure you have a solid connection, this is VERY critical.

Kindle Fire First Aide Step 12: Next, make sure the Kindle Fire is Turned Off. Take the other end of the USB Cable and carefully inset it into a free USB Slot on your Computer - be careful to not disconnect the other end.

Kindle Fire First Aide Step 13 : The Kindle Fire should automatically turn on and boot regular Bootmode. If the Kindle does not turn on depress the power button until it turns on. Next select Option 15 in the Software. The Kindle will reboot and will now see a screen that says: Fastboot Kindle Fire.

Note: If Option 15 does not trigger the Kindle to boot into Fastboot, then your Bootloader is damaged. Please send SkOrPn a PM to order a Factory USB Cable.

Kindle Fire First Aide Step 14: Place the Kindle on a safe surface so it does not disconnect when running the software.

Kindle Fire First Aide Step 15: Launch the KF First Aide software by double mouse clicking on the KF First Aide icon.

Kindle Fire First Aide Step 16: You will be presented with a Kindle Fire First Aide Menu, carefully select the operations you would like to perform on the Kindle.

Kindle Fire First Aide Step 17: If the option states "Fastboot" you need to leave the Kindle as noted above, this is Fastboot Mode. As the last operation be sure to Wipe the Cache and User Data which is Backup Option 3 in the Menu.

Kindle Fire First Aide Step 18: Next, we will disable "Fastboot Mode" and enable ADB on the Kindle Fire. Select Option 10 in the Software Menu, the Kindle will Reboot into Regular Mode.

Kindle Fire First Aide Step 19: You may now perform the 'ADB Mode' options in the Menu.

Kindle Fire First Aide Note 1: Remember, after you perform the full Recovery, you are working with a Fresh Copy of the Software. ADB is disabled by default so be sure to Enable ADB under Security and Allow Installation of Programs under the Device Tab.

Kindle Fire First Aide Note 2: After the complete restore, please be sure to clear the Davlik Cache and the User Data by selecting Backup Option #3. You may also wipe the User Data and Cache by opening a Administrative Command Prompt within the KFFirstAide Folder and enter:

    Code:
    fastboot -i 0x1949 erase cache
    fastboot -i 0x1949 erase userdata
    fastboot -i 0x1949 reboot

Kindle Fire First Aide Note 3: The original versions of the Kindle Fire HD 8.9" with a software Versions 8.2.3 or 8.2.4 may find there Kindle Boot-loader loops to a Red Fastboot Screen. If your Kindle is stuck in Fastboot, please follow these steps to recover the Boot-loader: How To Recover Kindle Fire HD 8.9" Bootloader*

Note: Please be aware of two main options in the Menu - one is Fastboot Mode where you have several Menu Operations that use Fastboot to execute properly and two is ADB Mode where you have several Menu Operations that use ADB to execute properly.

Backup Option #1 Note: When selecting Backup Option 1 the images will be backed up to the SD Card in a folder named KindleBackup. Please copy this folder to your desktop until we are able to upload it to our secure servers. There will be a restore option in the future that will automatically pull YOUR images for restoration. There is a known Bug in Windows where you will not see the images in the Kindle Internal Drive which can be found in Computer. To overcome this issue, please download and install WiFi File Transfer then open your Web Browser to transfer these Backup files from your Kindle to the PC.

Backup Option #2 Note: When selecting Backup Option 2 the images are first copied to the Kindle, then they are transfered to your Computer inside a folder named Backup which can be found inside the C:\KFFirstAide folder.

*Note: After several conference calls with the Amazon Development Team we found Amazon applied a patch to the Bootloader in an effort to lock down the Bootloader, this patch rarely causes the Bootloader to stick or Bootloop, please use the above link to release the Bootloader. We have removed this patch from the boot-prod.img eliminating future issues with recovered HD 8.9" users.

How To Manually Recover The Kindle Fire 8.9" Stuck In Fastboot?

    To All-

If you would like to try a last ditch effort in getting the Kindle Fire 8.9" back online, please do the following:

Step 1: Please run the Kindle Fire First Aide, attempt the HD 8.9" Recovery, if it fails move on to Step 2

Step 2: Exit the Kindle Fire First Aide utility, double mouse click the KFFirstAide Folder.

Step 3: Download Boot Image Number 1 from here (save the image to the KFFirstAide Folder): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/54456659/kfhd-8.2.3/Images/boot-prod.img

Step 4: Download Recovery Image Number 2 from here (save the image to the KFFirstAide Folder): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/54456659/kfhd-8.2.3/Images/recovery-prod.img

Step 5: Open up an Administrative Command Prompt from within the KFFirstAide Folder by opening up the KFFirstAide Folder then press your Right Hand Mouse Key while you are over the KFFirstAide Folder contents, then select Open a command prompt here. You should see something like

    Code:
    C:\Users\Your Name\KFFirstAide>
Step 6: Next you would make sure the Kindle Fire is plugged into USB and Turned off, type the following and press enter after the command while the Kindle is off and plugged into USB:

    Code:
    fastboot reboot -i 0x1949
Step 6: You will see a Windows Command Prompt that will look like:

    Code:
    C:\Users\Your Name\KFFirstAide>fastboot reboot -i 0x1949
    <waiting for device>
Step 7: Next Power on the Kindle While you see the above, one the Kindle Boots the Kindle will suddenly reboot back into Fastboot although we have seen this step free the Bootloader, so if the Kindle begins to Boot normally unplug it from USB, if the Kindle boot back to Fastboot red screen proceed to step 8.

Step 8: While the Kindle is in Fastboot Mode type the following at the Windows Command Prompt:
    Code:
    fastboot flash recovery recovery-prod.img -i 0x1949
    Code:
    fastboot erase cache -i 0x1949
    fastboot erase userdata -i 0x1949
    fastboot reboot -i 0x1949
Step 9: Leave the Kindle Plugged into USB. Wait for the device to Boot back to Fastboot, if the device boot back to a Fastboot screen with odd vertical line running through it, stop here, the Kindle has begun the recovery phase. If the Kindle begins it recovery, it will react odd and reboot several times, this is normal. Wait 10 to 15 minutes. If the Kindle boot back to Red Fastboot Screen proceed to Step 10.

Step 10: Leave the Kindle Plugged into USB. Next type the following command:

    Code:
    fastboot flash boot boot-prod.img -i 0x1949
Step 11: Next let's do a little house cleaning. The following commands wipe the old Dalvik Cache and User Data which is, in simple, tied to the old Android Operating System. Having said this, when the new OS attempts to retrieve data from these partitions, a content stream of errors occur in the background, causing the Kindle to react VERY slow and at times completely unresponsive. To eliminate this problem we will wipe these partitions before booting the new OS. Please enter the following commands, press enter after each one:

    Code:
    fastboot erase cache -i 0x1949
    fastboot erase userdata -i 0x1949
    fastboot reboot -i 0x1949
Step 12: Unplug from USB. The Kindle HD 8.9" will reboot with an odd Fastboot screen with vertical lines running through it, this is normal, do not interrupt the recovery. Let the Kindle begin it's recovery phase. This may take up to 10 to 15 minutes and the Kindle will reboot several times.

Step 13: Once the Kindle Stabilizes, please be sure to apply the Amazon OTA Patch before connecting the Kindle to your WiFi, otherwise you will loose Root and Google Play Store which are both installed on the images.

Step 14: After you applied the patches please wait for the Kindle to rebuild itself, this can take up to a couple of hours. If after 4 hours the Kindle is still reacting slow, perform a Kindle Fire HD 8.9" Factory Reset. This option can be found under the More+ > Device > Restore to Factory Defaults. We find this last step is rarely used.
