@WugFresh,
I am on Paranoid android $.1 Beta rom with M kernel a67 and TWRP 2.6.3.1 .I am trying to take nandroid backup but everytime it boots in to TWRP recovery but never starts backup process just stays in the twrp options screen.i was able to take nandroid back up of other roms like stock,Purity and AICP but with this ROM i am not able to do it.
so is this the problem of PA rom or the toolkit? can you please look in to it.
thank you.

What build do you have selected in the toolkit? "Custom ROM"? If so, try setting it to the latest stock build available instead and see if that works. "Custom ROM" assumes that the boot.img is already modified in a way that will allow privileged commands to run - however this might not be the case on the latest PA.

Boot into recovery. And then use the recovery options (from the device itself) to take a nandroid.

Give that a try.

I've never tried to use NRT to take a nandroid when my device is on a custom rom. Hence the above suggestion.

NRT works gr8 taking nandroid of stock rom otherwise

UPDATE: I found out how to update twrp but I still wanna know if the latest is buggy before I give it a shot

I was originally gonna ask if there's a way to use wugfresh to automatically update twrp but does the newest version have bugs again, or JUST problems with backups?

I thought maybe if I checked custom recovery and then clicked root it might take me to another screen to just update twrp but it ended up starting my device in recovery and gave me rooting instructions in a popup telling me to flash supersu and stuff- I simply rebooted my recovery back into system should I expect any upcoming problems or did all the toolkit do is just push those .zip's to my device?

Usually how long does a nandroid restore take? I've been sitting for over an hour with my phone having a black screen and NRT saying Pushing "dateofbackup" to your device. Thanks!

My nexus 7 (2012) device takes around 35-40 seconds to reboot completely to the lockscreen. Is that normal?

Depends on how many app/games you have installed on it....
Anyway... 40 seconds is to much....
What rom you have on it? (stock /custom)...
