For anyone who finds themselves with a soft brick. I stumbled across this while searching the web.

I renamed it update.zip and proceeded to dig my box from the closet. After hooking up the mouse, hdtv, and power cable, Just to check i booted her up. And as I figured, frozen at boot screen. I then powered down the box,REMOVED the micro SD and held the power button until it blinked three times. After this it went into recovery! Put in the Sd and went to install update, I followed the prompts and now she's Back to bone stock.
Hopefully, even though this is an older issue, this helps someone.
