I would like to say that I am more than a little surprised that debranding my phone and installing a custom ROM did not *sim-unlock* the phone.

I mean, the SIM works in the hardware; so I dont understand how the Sim-Lock takes place anywhere *but* the software. And if the software is the OS... *How* is that software lock retained under a completely different operating system?

Also, I've seen an unlocking service that works at a cost of $25, which is fairly cheap. However what I don't understand is how all these unlocking services are able to do it, but there's no guide about it anywhere.

Not that I'm expecting the how-to explanation, since it's not available anywhere on the web apparently. But in general terms, *how* does the unlocking service do it? When I picture it, it seems like they must be using something like a Keygen that performs calculations based on your IMEI?

Thanks! All answers, speculation, constructive conversation appreciated : )
