VIDEO CAMERA TEST

Let us collect all hacking & development info here about this device, and help each other.
This phone is also by some called the "Thunderbird Galaxy S5"
1:1 S5 white clone/replica with all logos and 1:1 accessories.

Pre-rooted ROM:
http://www.needrom.com/mobile/hdc-s5-g900f-mtk6592/

ROOT:
Can be rooted using the "read back" method using MTK droidtools.
But not with all the one-click-root tools.

Samsung bootanimations:
The original Samsung bootanimation and shutdown animation IS in the media folder inside system on the phone! Just need to remove the "2" in the end of the filenames, and they will show. You can do that after you have ROOTED the device!

I already tried Framaroot it failed. Remember yours the G900H? mine is the G900F, it may be different.
So far also tried, MTK Droidtools, vRoot, Shaume. All failed to root it.

I've the quad version and so far everything is ok except for either the phone freezing and seemingly need to be charged our the battery lasting 10 minutes before it just looks like the power is pulled, not sure if software or hardware :/

I got root via framaroot, middle or bottom choice I think, rebooted, installed supersu from market & I think it said no su bin sop either that or superuser I think correctly installed root, then I used mtktols which gave me the yellow root light, so I rooted with that then granted su permissions on phone& I was rooted. Not sure exactly which bit really did it. Also this was after an 07/06 firmware update I did after connecting to wifi.

Wifi is terrible btw, anyone else's bad? Can we fix it?

The Octacore and the Quadcore are two different MTK chipsets. The one I have is the Octacore MTK6592 (yours probably MTK6582, which is easy to root), and its harder to root, all choices with Framaroot gives me immediately root failed! I have no phone freezing or problems on mine. WiFi works super good and fast on mine, even 2 rooms away from my router the signal is still good enough to watch Youtube.

one of my big issue is also that stock recovery is not working....as well any CWM recovery I tried to port...

if I runb the phone on stock recovery the screen become "white" and didn't show anyrthing...like stock recovery is failing to load...very strange...

did you have a stock recovery or any CWM recovery to pass me?

Ok after some trouble, I have now managed to ROOT it manually (and I have CWM recovery on it instead of the chinese version, but CWM will be upside down, but it works) with the "read back method" using MTK droidtools and Spflashtool (none of the one-click-root tools will work on this one). Will provide a backup of my rooted ROM later on needrom.com and my modified boot.img and recovery.img plus some info here on XDA.

Update1
In simple steps, it works like this, with MTK droid tools I extracted my original boot and recovery from the phone, after that I patched them with MTK droid tools. Then I flashed the patched boot and recovery back into the phone. After that I was able to root and send SuperSU into the phone with MTK droid tools, and also create and flash CWM recovery to the phone. Sounds simple? well, I had to do some HEX editing etc. to be able to create the "read back" start and lenght to the patched files and it actually took a lot of time to do.

(this is only for users who are experienced in flashing using Spflashtool and MTKdroidtools)
Here is my full stock ROM prerooted http://www.needrom.com/mobile/hdc-s5-g900f-mtk6592/

Update2 (this is only for users who are experienced in flashing using Spflashtool and MTKdroidtools)
If you dont want to flash the whole ROM, just flash my patched boot.img and recovery.img, download them from here https://www.sendspace.com/file/y0u1wu

Of course you need to have all drivers installed before you do this. Unpack my files, start Spflash tool, load the scatter file, choose bootimg and pick my patched boot file, do the same for the recovery, and have checkmark in both, then flash the 2 files into your G900F. Should flash and end with a green circle if everything went good.
After that boot phone, connect phone to pc, start up mtk droid tools, it should show root shell now, go to tab 2 in mtk droid tools, before the "backup" button and the SuperSU where greyed out, but you should be able now to click the SuperSU, and send it to the phone to get root access. Also you should be able to create the CWM recovery now and send it to the phone.

I also did a full dump (READBACK) and tried to restore (successfully) and tried to patch boot and recovery from zero... nothing
my original stock recovery never worked... if I boot thephone on stock rrecover iI got a kind of white screen...

Anyway, will try your stock recovery and see if it's working on my model
maybe firmware is different....

I'm not at home now to make some test but will do it in the near future

model is not really important....build number is important, we have the same

Funny that my data are like yours and just change the model.

well, if you want to post your DUMP to be flashed via SP FLASH TOOL, you have to post your !Files_to_FlashTool with inside the SYSTEM.IMG
otherwise you can avoid to post !Files_to_FlashTool....not usefull at all by anybody to be used.

the DUMP you should do is with SP FLASH TOOL ( READBACK FUNCTION )......then the whole rom you get ( ROM_ ) must be exctracted with MTK DROID TOOL and you should get the whole rom in clear including your EBR2 as well as SYSTEM.img

the way you root the phone is well known by senior user or developer like me.....but as said it's not working on my firmware device, I did weeks before you my friends...

post your FULL DUMP, so I can try to see if it's running on my model , again it's only I try I can do to9 use a firmware rootable...mine is not rootable yet and custom recovery can't be installed , at least not the traditional CWM....maybe a TWRP yes but did not tried yet

    thanks

PS: to reply to the user who ask for repartitioning the internal storage and have more space for apks...I know how to do it, need time to do that but I will come back with ( hopfully ) new EBR1 and EBR2 for that.
also having a firmware with only EBR1 is possible to "modify" it and change internal partition...but this S5 clone have both.....

Why are we talking about system.img? According to the info here http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=2332783 for read back root, the system.img is not important at all (step 15). Only the boot.img and recovery.img is needed. And where do I say something about SYSTEM folder?
