New root method should be revealed around 10 am on Saturday the 9th. That's when gtvhacker gets to speak. And they may actually reveal not one, but two new root methods for the Chromecast from what I read.

Mind if I ask where you read this? I have yet to find anything saying they are releasing a chromecast exploit.

No chromecast related exploits or roots were released at defcon or blackhat this year.

At this point the serial number is meaningless....
All CCasts can be rooted provided they have not been Updated past 17xxx....

If it ran a recent update to 19xxx it is no longer rootable!
Anything with a Rom Earlier than that is still able to be rooted.
