Same issue, same attempt to workaround, same result of not working. Please just allow us to set Contacts to the phone "favorites" the way the watch dialer already can.

I can see my contacts sometimes. However there is a separate entry for each phone for every contact, with no indication of what type of phone it is. You should only show mobile numbers and only contacts that have mobile numbers. Even better would be to only list mobile numbers for starred Google contacts (favorites).

I do hope a fix comes out soon for the blank contact screen.

just posted this in another thread, but figure ill hit multiple spots for better results;

anyone have an "issue" or notice, if you use Flesky from your watch, then go back to your phone, you lose your autocorrect on the phone? my "swype" keyboard stops working seems like after using flesky from the watch.

a quick S5 reset works, but wondering if its a "just my phone" thing or a bug.
