I am on:
• Elemental X 6.01
• Stock Oreo 8.1.0
• Magisk 15.2
... and everything is working just fine. I haven't had any boot or bootloader issues.

It might be worth checking if you have the latest bootloader installed if you are getting stuck in the bootloader.

Anyone else having issues with ZRAM size not being set at boot? I'm trying to have it at 768MB, but it keeps resetting to 508 each reboot - all of my other changes are kept properly, only this one is causing issues. @flar2, any ideas what might be the problem?

But the Nexus 5X with Android 8.1 uses ZRAM?
Mine it's disabled...

Yes, on 8.1 modified zRAM size does not survive a reboot and has to be applied again manually, although "Set on Reboot" is activated (blue icon instead of the grey one)
Thanks a lot for the response. Not a big deal, just wanted to make sure it's not something unique to my device. Seems like 786 is optimal.

8.1 here as well and it was Enabled by default and is actually being used quite a lot (though I adjusted swapiness to 80).

In my ... seeing through the EX Manager, indicates that I have 70% of the RAM used, 49% of ZRAM used, ZRAM Enabled, ZRAM size - 508MB, ZRAM compression - lz4 and Swappiness - 60. Both with the gray icon on the front.

What do you recommend to change?

Thanks for the information and clarification. :good:

For now I'm testing with ZRAM size at 768MB and Swapiness set to 80. Rest stays the same.

I just can't seem to get the phone to doze.

Wakelock Detector shows Project Fi at the top of Wakelock Triggers. PowerManagerService.Wakelocks at the top of Kernel Wakelocks.

Any ideas people? I had the same problem when I wasn't on Fi too.

Would it be possible to repack ElementalX into a Anykernel2 zip? ElementalX has always been the most stellar performer on my phone but I just can't get it working with the newest Magisk, always end up in a bootloop. Meanwhile all of the kernels that use Anykernel2 boot just fine.

Are you sure, you're doing the whole process in the right order? It is very unusual, that Ex + Magisk seems to work for everybody here, but not for you.
First flash the stock Kernel, then Magisk and at last flash Ex. Do not flash Ex over any other Kernel than stock
