which battery board? I'm sure you did a short somewhere

can you upload some pictures how you connected everything?

Yes, I have an short(my bad)...thanks.
I have another problem-phone is stuck in bootloop even when recharged battery(I also tested original baterry). TWRP recovery is working, but it is not charging battery. TWRP report battery is about 20% and no error in kernel log. I try disconnecting the middle wire, but no effect. When the phone si booting up with pluged USB, the current is about 500 mA to baterry, but in less then two seconds drops to 0 mA and phone is living only from USB power. In TWRP recovery the phone is only powering from battery(no current from charger).

I think you didn't correctly connect the middle wire. Try to connect it to the left of the 3 golden connectors on the mexus 5 mainboard

Tried this mod a while ago. Tip for anyone looking to try this mod - heat the LCD itself and remove it from the metal frame before grinding off the metal, that way you don't have to be careful at all. My first attempt I cut away the metal correctly but the LCD broke, so I just continued cutting away the metal left and just replaced the LCD. Much easier if you remove first and then re-attach, that way there is no worry of damaging the screen.

Also, I wasn't able to continue with the mod because the gold contacts broke off. Any tips on how to solder directly to the copper contacts underneath? Kind of hard for me to solder there.

The Nexus 5 was produced a while ago, more than 4 years!
But this phone is still fast and I'm using it as my daily device. But there was one problem, the battery!
If you want to replace it you still get an (if you're lucky) an original used battery. If you're unlucky it's a fake one or it was just lying around, loosing all capacity and is at least as bad as the battery you already have.

In 2013/2014 a lot of people managed to press an Lg G2 battery inside the nexus, the BL-T7
BUT this phone and it's battery is very old, like the nexus 5

I tried the BL-T7 Mod, after receiving a lot of fake batterys, I finally got an original one, but yeah, still a 3 years old battery, that was lying around - so it was not good at all, and I lost NFC and Wireless charging

#############################################################################

Here is what I got for you:

On Ebay, I was looking for a new phone (because of bad battery life) and I found a perfectly fine looking Nexus 5x for 20€, the seller said it won't turn on. I ordered it and i did not manage to repair it, the seller just lied, bc he didn't say it was damaged by water
What I did: I saw the battery, thought about, "hey this is a 2016 battery, original and it may fit"
I ripped it out and really managed to swap this 2700mAh BL-T19 battery with my Lg G2 3000mah BL-T7 battery that was inside my nexus

And holy, THIS BATTERY LIFE! - 5hours SOT under heavy load!: https://imgur.com/a/sOdT0
https://imgur.com/a/HAm8e "normal load"
https://imgur.com/a/x2kXO min brightness, not doing much (only whatsapp), I know that is unrealistic, but at least, it's achievable!!

Benefits:
it's a new Battery (produced in 2015/2016)
NFC working!
Wireless charging working!
The nexus 5x had a lot of problems, a lot of dead phones, and if you're lucky you can buy a defective phone (like me) and get a fully functional battery!!

#############################################################################

NOTE: Use Tape, this is a powerful battery, if the wires touch each other, it may start burning
I won't take any responsibility if your phone get's destroyed!

#############################################################################

How I did this:

this is a BL-T19:
and this is the one in the nexus 5 (BL-T9):

as you can see, the nexus 5x's is longer, but it's the same width. It's longer than the lg g2's one so i had to make space

I won't make pictures of my mod because i already did it, closed my phone and I really don't want to reopen it :D did it, see below (5.)

1. Completely disassemble your phone, you need to remove metal from the frame
2. Search a dremel to make space: I have no dremel so I used a DC motor and put sandpaper with zip ties on it (https://imgur.com/a/O7SIU)
3. Now remove metal from the frame, I have here some pictures on my testing phone frame: https://imgur.com/a/53tbX
4. Replace the battery! Do it exacly like here: https://imgur.com/a/Yj7ww
I won't decribe it any further, you may ask for help here or in older threads (Lgg2 battery replacement)
5. Here are some other Pictures I edited for you, the 2nd and third are the important ones! https://imgur.com/a/lpz8W
here are Pics of my mod, don't worry, mine looks a little different because I used another batteryboard because I broke my original one: https://imgur.com/a/8BLVj

6. You're done! try to bootup, close the phone, and be happy about a big battery NFC and Wireless charging!!!
Note that you may have to remove some plastic from the cover that goes onto the mainboard,

What ROM are you running on the phone?

Just ignore that, that's like a 'label'
like you got a pc with an i5 sticker on it, but swap the cpu with an i7, the sticker still says it's an i5

the battery works as long as it has capacity, it has no controller which tests the real capacity, it just simply lasts longer

Just received a 2300 replacement ordered from Walmart.com. Shows manufacture date of October of 2017. Replaced 2013 battery. The old battery was very deformed (expanding).

Will let you all know about battery life once I put a few cycles through it. Running rooted stock 6.01 with a whole bunch of framework. No access to WiFi, connected at home to a Sprint Magic Box. Never more than 3 hours SOT.

Anyone who tried a bigger battery with a higher capacity. Did you edit the capacity or recalibrate the battery? Did your device show the real/new capacity? I modded a lenovo zuk z2 pro from a 3090mah to a 4100mah but have some issues. I soldered the circuit board of an original oem battery to a xiaomi battery. My device seemingly doesn't understand or know that it has a bigger battery. It reboots when it thinks it's out of capacity. But that doesn't happen in recovery mode. Any advice?

Did you swap the 2 battery boards or did you leave them in place? Do I have to desolder them and swap the BL-T9 board with the BL-T19 board?

My Nexus 5x BL-T19 battery just arrived, but even after dremeling away the higher aluminum line (I was using a G2 mod before) it is still too big for my chassis. Dunno what to do, might just buy another phone haha
Now I have to resolder the g2 :|

i just bought a 3rd party battery straight from their official seller, here it is called SHOPEE.com: LOG-ON battery, claims to have 3500mah, which i doubt. but the good thing is, i found a manufactured stickered on physical battery 04/2018. so yea, might as well buy third party one. it is newer, less hassle. and in dollar, its about $4 shipped.

Just picked up a 5x battery thats oem and manufactured in 2017! Hopefully that's an improvement over the somewhat crappy experience I had with the newpower99 battery.

I'm familiar with customizing things with a dremel I'm just not too familiar with lithium ion batteries.

Do I remove the skin and then remove the small board connected to the battery then swap them with the factory battery board? Sorry if this has been answered before I'm just a little out of my element. Is this the same method as the g2 battery swap? If so I'll just watch a how to video on that

You need to replace the small board with the one from Nexus 5 battery. Nexus 5X battery is a little thicker than original so you need very flat wires or copper sheet (of course you need to properly isolate it with tape).
It needs to be a little cautious with the dremmel and the aluminium dust will be everywhere, so remove all the boards and tape over every hole in the frame (mainly for camera and proximity sensor).
The small board is very fragile and heat sensitive (there is a fuse). Solder the wire from battery at the farther side as last thing (when you heat the black SMD board when under voltage from battery the board set permanent fail flag and blows fuse and even replacing the fuse will not work). Solder it with soldering iron for SMD and not with transformer soldering iron (very strong magnetic field around the tip can damage the board).
You need to boot it up and try if it charges, the sense wire to the board reports temperature and when it is not connected the battery temp is showing something like -190°C and the phone can not charge.
After verifying that battery works glue it or stick it with double-sided tape. Battery can damage the flat flex cable from motherboard to the bottom board when you for example drop your phone (it happened to me).
PS: Sorry for my bad english.

OoOoo maybe I'd be better off getting a 2016 G2 battery? I didn't know I needed a special soldering iron.

I have a very basic cheap 15 dollar soldering iron

My display brightness was maxed out most of the time.
5h Sot for an intensive workload is very impressive! I tried everything except gaming to stress the hell out of that battery, and it lasted so long!

I'm gonna test a normal workload and upload pictures here if you want.

What screen on time did you get using this modification? :)

Did that mod yesterday, so I don't know yet :)

Update: I did my first full charge 2 hours ago, have 1h sot and still 91% left, holy moly :D

Update 2: 77%, 2.5h sot: whatsapp, browsing and youtube half brightness and an slight overclock to 2.35Ghz (elementalx kernel)

Will report tomorrow after a full day usage because for now i'm gonna load it overnight :)

No need for special soldering iron (as long as it can melt the solder...). I mean, that soldering gun (transformer soldering iron) is not perfect for this work, because of the big currents (about 100A) creates strong magnetic fields. You have probably soldering iron with some kind of heating coil inside that heats the tip, so no big currents and strong magnetic fields that can destroy electronics.
