I just thought i would post this here in case people might need it

It explains perfectly how to do this but I thought i would add a few comments
I used hxd editor and selected file/open then navigated to the boot.img
Then edit/select block, start-offset=0, end-offset=7FF(hex) (length=800(hex)), right-click on highlighted block and delete (confirm delete)
Then search/find/00001F8B(Hex-values) and make sure there are loads of zeros above the found spot. If not found, try 0001F8B or 001F8B, if found but there are no zeros above it, use find again until found. The 1F8B will be at the start of the line and is the start of the ramdisk.
Then click on the end of the last row of zeros and then edit/select block, start-offset=0, then copy-and-paste the end-offset value to the length box (the highlighted block should not extend into the next row)
Then right-click on the highlighted block and select cut (confirm)
Then file/new right-click in the blank area and select paste insert
Then file/save as, navigate to somewhere and save as zImage
Then click on the boot.img tab in hxd, file/save as, navigate to somewhere same and save as initrd.gz
