OR anyone reading this message,
Cant we replace the Settings
app with another one within the system folder?
I have an android based tv running on Kitkat 4.4.4, and it has a china based motherboard and very simplified version of ROM (mstar). I want to replace the stock Mstar settings apk with the "google" stock settings apk within the system/app/ folder. I have root access to the TV.
Things I've done till now:
- Downloaded google stock "Settings.apk" along with "Settings.odex" matching to the android version and ROM style (i.e Tablet type as the board is using tablet rom, not android tv rom)
- Copied both the files to /system/app/ folder
- Provided them with read/write/execute permission (via: chmod 777 command through adb)
- Restarted the TV, but still no luck.
The new settings app is not visible anywhere. Maybe, the old settings app is still overpowering them and needs to be disabled. BUT, will disabling the stock settings app will revoke every access to the TV??? Will I be able to connect to the TV again via adb?? ANY INPUT IS HIGHLY APPRECIATED.
FYI: I connect to the TV via ADB wireless, where TV is connected to my network via ethernet cable.
