Keeping compatibility with old methods may possibly restrict the improvement of an app in the long run. I personally, would prefer the dev to focus on more pressing issues than backward compatibility of a setting being moved and stored/retrieved differently and hence not backward compatible. I dev apps also, and sometimes the backward compatibility code can make the app source very hard to reliably maintain. I trust he had a reason for it, otherwise I would be using a different app. Your statement of "bad development", is "bad" behavior for a user of a free app. And apart from simply complaining and publishing your gripe, I do not see the benefit to the community.
