Maybe the idea mentioned a while ago to add a rich text editor and let the text editor be, should be considered, because requests like yours keep adding up. The most recent one was to add working links. And neither will be the last for sure. I'm surprised adding embedded images has not been requested yet, seriously -- some are using the view mode ( already an extra in a text only editor ) as an e-reader of sorts.

A "text editor" really should be a text editor, no formatting, media / visual features, hypertext, etc. Or maybe add all these features and future ones to the heavier "code editor" already present ? Or at least stop calling it text editor ! ^_^ ( Don't kill me. )

+1

I use MiX text editor the same way I use notepad on Windows (and to lesser extent gedit on Linux) - specifically to reduce things to unformatted text. I'm surprised that has not been mentioned before but perhaps I missed it or it's not a common usage case. A hyperlink might not be very intrusive to that usage case but to your point that is one of many requests. Shifting those functions to the code editor (as long as they don't have deleterious impact there) or a third new entity would allow txt to be text, and allow such requests to be explored and implemented more freely (albeit with more work for HP).

Can't connect to one of my Windows SMB computers as of last updates

Weird. Anyone know what might be going wrong here? It was working prior to the recent mixplorer and smb updates -- though I can't be sure that they caused it. It may well be something that changed on my end.

However, with mixplorer fairly recently I had to switch from using the IP address in the URI address (which no longer worked) to the names of the computers in the network (here NICK-LAPTOP). That worked until recently. The SMB with the IP address in the URI says "refused" immediately and the SMB with NICK-LAPTOP just times out.

@HootanParsa Its been more than 10 days but the separate version for different architect can't be seen anywhere for the newly updated mix image add-on, neither it has been updated on the play store.
Is there any plan on updating the image exif editor where info is not being displayed.

First of all I want to say thanks for the great app, I use it all the time and it's the best File Explorer on Android by far. I have a suggestion for the SMB plugin though:

Windows 10 has a Administrative Network Share for each partition set by default that it needs for Remote Windows Sessions. These shares are denoted as C$, D$ etc. depending on how many partitions you have. They are inaccessible by normal means as it should be and normally also hidden, however MiX with the SMB plugin shows them along with regular Samba shares if accessing a Windows 10 PC.

Could MiX maybe get an option to hide these shares to reduce clutter?

Although I like seeing admin shares (especially with multiple computers or those having different drives attached at different times) because they serve as a reminder of which computer I'm accessing and what state it's in, it would be nice to have this option. I think this has come up before which makes me wonder if it is indeed possible.

Meanwhile, there are a couple of ways to mitigate it but they do require extra steps or changes to usage patterns.

- MiXplorer's "Hide/Show hidden" toggle respects the admin share syntax as a hidden type without having to be manually flagged as hidden in MiX (which is not allowable anyhow). This would also hide other items intended to be hidden (such as ".filename") but... With the "Show hidden globally" checkbox at the top of the MiXplorer menu where it is fairly easy to access you could toggle the display of hidden items on and off fairly easily.

- You can make separate shortcuts to each of the shares but that's not a good replacement for seeing a nice top down view of all your actual shares and climbing the tree from there.

+1 to a separate show/hide Windows admin shares toggle unless people think that would open a pandora's box of too many granular settings.

I have installed the latest on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro Android 10 device and give root access permission. but I was confused when I restarted my device, I could not enter the system, but always entered into fastbooot mode. until I have to wipe data. After knowing it turns out the cause is Mixplorer. is there a solution to overcome this problem?

new add-on importing

Hi, personally a new line about add-ons importing instead of installing (renaming apk to mia) is a little confusing. The complete text is Rename the addons extension from 'apk' to 'mia' and tap on it, then Import. You don't need to install the addons anymore. Does it mean that after importing they will be updated automatically? Does a fresh copy of Mixplorer still need installing them first? Are they (importing, installing) the same action behind the scenes? I tried to site-bound googling with "mia" word here and at FAQ, no results, so I posted it here. Thanks

Do you have some proof to corroborate your theory?

Good questions, one of which might have been answered during an exploration after similar was asked in the FAQ here: https://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=82961189&postcount=1187 (responses in the 3-4 posts after that one). We definitely could use clarification. Here is my impression so far (consolidating from those other posts and adding a few things):

- Not built into the app installer (as it seems). Tested in clean install. Still require installation after app install. It should be noted that the modular add-on method of adding features seems fairly popular and it does not seem that this change is bringing them all into the app installer permanently (developer's unknown future plans pending).

- After importing the behavior seems the same and I think it will update via internal updater. I've not been able to test this specifically as with the previous item but the material in the file being installed is the same apart from the name. I may be able to test this later.

I don't know if there is some further goal regarding this new method or if we just need clearer documentation for how it stands now. Already the new import method of installation does break a dependency on Android's native package installer by allowing MiX to now handle the installations internally, which may benefit some users. Thanks again for fleshing out some questions and recommending text for the description. I've got my ears on and will add what we learn to the still embryonic Add-on post in the FAQ https://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=82834971&postcount=1182.

Yeah I agree hiding hidden files and folders globally isn't the most elegant solution so a more granular approach would be nice in my opinion. But huh I actually only have one shared folder per PC I frequently access to quickly transfer files between my PCs and phone but I wasn't aware I could just point the share entry directly to the folder, I did that now and it's a good enough workaround and even saves me one tap, thanks! :p

I read on Xiaomi EU forum that the problem is caused by the new dynamic partitions in new Xiaomi phones, once you modify something in the dynamic partition it becomes corrupted and you get a boot loop. Nothing to do with Mixplorer.

Wow, is that occurring merely because MiX is on the device or because of things that we can do with MiX after it's installed (such as deleting system files)? If just the presence of MiX causes such a problem maybe developer can code to prevent install or pop up a warning.

Don't know any file explorer that can access any partition other than system and data.

I do not own this device, but i have a suspicion that rooting the device would be more likely to be "modify something in the dynamic partition it becomes corrupted and you get a boot loop" rather than the install of an app. If you install MiX, but don't give MiX root permissions, it should just be like any other 3rd party app.

The user in Xiaomi EU forum reported a bootloop after granted root permissions to Root Explorer to uninstall Notes app. He tried to report it as a bug, but Igor Eisberg replied to him:

I quote,

"Not a bug, really. Dynamic partitions are meant to be read-only and once modified, they become corrupted. This has nothing to do with our ROM"

The problem is when you grant permissions and then reboot, some users suggest to revoke root authorization in Magisk Manager before reboot to avoid boot loop.

Cheers.

Precisely this! Been doing it since 1990 when I first started using the Internet (my first excursions were via a military computer network when I was active duty).

I hope this rooting issue on dynamic partition won't affect any other brands or future release of Android or that we'll found a workaround keep doing what we want with our device.

This is not new, but rather the direction Android has been moving for a while. I believe Google made mounting system as RW impossible on Pixels, for example. Android itself becomes neutered and useless, more and more with each version. See MiX's changelog... "you won't be able to do X or Y on 11", etc.

As a user, talk with your wallet. Buy only from OEMs that allow bootloaders to be unlocked ( OnePlus ), that support developers and AOSP ( SONY ), that still make models with headphone jack, etc. Otherwise let's all just buy an iPhone / Pixel and follow Apple's / Google's commands.

    Hello and good morning, @ledagiw

If you're too lazy to search prior to posting you demonstrate your unwillingness to follow the XDA Forum Rules, to which you agreed to adhere when you registered a year ago. After a year, please consider to review them and note paragraph one:
    1. Search before posting.

Use one of our search functions before posting or creating a new thread. Whether you have a question or just something new to share, it's very likely that someone has already asked that question or shared that news.
It's irrelevant why you don't want to follow the rules but if you don't it will eventually lead to consequences to your account. I'm convinced this is something you want to avoid.

You said "use an alternative" in your post.

Is there any possibility to open a different viewing app out of MiXExplorer instead of ImageViewer which would allow swiping through the whole folder?

If I click "open with" and choose Google Photos for example only the one picture opened opens in Google Photos and I cannot swipe through the whole folder like I can in ImageViewer.

Google severely restricts access to files, MIX's image viewer can handle viewing files better because it has permissions to handle all files. Use a gallery application that you can give permissions to handle all files to, for instance this one, open-source, with no trackers or malvertising :

Please put your shovel away as it is not helping you. You used incognito mode as an excuse and you got reasonably called out. Throughout you were willfully ignorant of or unwilling to follow rules which all of us agreed to follow, as if some exception should be made for you. There's no reason, particularly your own laziness and lack of contribution, which should be anyone else's motivation to do your work for you. You had a chance to participate and learn about a significant development topic but refused to do your part. Any failing in this regard is yours.

As to the topic about which you inquired, if the available documentation does not answer your questions or if it is not clear (it is a indeed a bit sprawling) then feel free to inquire about it or provide feedback in the FAQ https://xdaforums.com/t/mixplorer-q-a-and-faq-user-manual.3308582/. You already have the links for Google and XDA search and you did not even have to do any of the legwork to get those. ;)

FYI, people here aren't on call for immediate response, and 47 minutes is an unreasonably short period of time within which to expect another response even if the first one did not meet your expectations (although at least is was not a full ping with @ symbol). It was not even enough time for others who might have helpful advice or even support of your request to jump in. I was writing a post on your behalf containing a comparison which was absent from your question, but didn't even have time to do that before you bumped the question.

Please give people time to respond. You happened to have gotten a reply from one of MiXplorer's most experienced Skinners and Themers (not me). Even if there has been some misunderstanding the answer may be worth the wait... or not... but wait is what we are expected to do in such cases. More details about your question in a moment.
