To sum it up: Superoneclick 1.5.5 and z4root 1.3.0 do not work. Any tool based on the rageagainstthecage script do not work. Currently there is no way to root this phone and it is not known when there will be.

Here I found an exploit for Linux 2.6.29 kernel that X8 uses.

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r22728790-Root-Exploit-for-Linux-Kernel-Published

We should apply it for X8. Anybody coud help with this?

*update* As I see, this exploit was born in 2009. I think it is patched already.
Who knows which kernel and patch has X8 exactly?

*update2* I tried to run "cheddar_bay.sh" but i have no permission and chmod 755 not works :[

I'm afraid this exploit may not work on ARM architecture - since it's quite strongly connected with i386/amd64 and GCC optimization code (I'm just assuming after reading documentation - it's just my guess, hope I'm wrong).

Are there anybody on the other side of our dream?
Are there anybody who is working on X8 root or bootloader?

Or our waiting is hopeless?

What do you think? Is it possible, that Vodafone deleted the libbinder.so from the firmware? And that's why the root is not possible on Vodafone with Android 1.6...

It is possible to root the x8 with 1.6 on vodafone, i did before updating. And the libbinder.so would seem to be present...as far as I'm aware there's no problem with rooting 1.6.

Interesting because some guys have problems during root process. They sad that libbinder.so was missing. SOC writed it.
This problem appears on T-mobile phones as well.

In 1.6, i had problems with z4root. It says rooting done but when i try titanium backup, it says i need root. I tried SOC and it worked the first time.

What are your errors when you try to root 2.1?

With SOC it goes into an unending loop of trying to get superuser access, either the rageagainstthecage script isn't working as it should, the exploit has been fixed or SE has put some checks which does not allow su access

I have the same problem. I can't root my Xperia X10 Mini Pro running Eclair. I have tried z4root and SOC and both failed. SOC loops until it hangs.

I believe SE has fixed the exploits in the latest updates. I had forced build 2.0.A.0.504 and I was able to root it many times using z4root but the official update for my phone came out yesterday so I reflashed it and it seems to be unrootable now, the build number is 2.0.1.A.0.47, kernel 2.6.29.

I have installed 2.0.A.0.504 again until a root method for this new firmware version is available.

The previous fw of urs 2.0.a.0.504, izzit 2.1? How do u revert back from latest fw to previous fw? Wht significant chg did u notice on the new fw?

According to this site, http://www.ptcrb.com/ctiastaff/complete/view_complete_request.cfm?modelid=17877 , the previous fw for x8 is 2.0.A.0.504, b4 they came out with the fw tht we got now, but izzit possible to find the previous fw mentioned on tht site?

Yes! X8 has 2.0.1.A.0.47, kernel 2.6.29 as well.
We seriously need a new root method. Untill then we should find a way to change 2.0.1.A.0.47 to 2.0.A.0.504. Do you think is it possible?
X10's bootloader is hacked? Can we use it for X8?

Another question: could we figure out the root password somehow? Forexample i give my imei number and a keygen give me the root password. Is it possible?

2.0.A.0.504 is actually Eclair (2.1). It may be possible to go back to 1.6 then modify build.prop and update to 2.1 (2.0.A.0.504) via SEUS or PC Companion. The thing is that as I mentioned above I have a X10 Mini Pro, not a X8 so I don't know if the process is the same but these are the general steps I followed:

- Download the X10 Flash Tool by Bin4ry here (I have no idea if this also works on X8): http://www-stud.uni-due.de/~sfanmakr...0Flash-2.1.zip
- Then download a decrypted 1.6 ROM. This one works at least on the Mini Pro (don't know if it works on X8): U20i NL 1.6 >> http://www.mediafire.com/?gg5lptk6h5yoaks
- Unzip the X10 Flashing Tool and inside the FlashToolRelease folder create another folder named Firmware and decompress the ROM there.
- Run x10flash.bat, click on Flash and choose the firmware folder you created (should be the only one listed)
- After flashing the 1.6 ROM, root your phone using any method that works on 1.6.
- Then modify your build.prop accordingly or get the one from another device (that gets the 2.0.A.0.504 update) somewhere else and replace yours with it using Root Explorer, it should be under the '/system' folder.
- Connect your device to PC Companion or SEUS and run the update by following all the steps.

Again these are general steps that work on the Mini Pro and since the build numbers are the same I assume it could work on the X8 as well. Try at your own risk.

If after updating your phone your keyboard layout is changed and keys seem misplaced then search this forum because there is a way to fix that by editing or replacing the keyprint.xml and mimmi_keypad.kcm.bin files. Once the phone is rooted, install Root Explorer and replace those files, it should be very simple. Just make sure you edit the file permissions and give all permissions to those two files.

Yes, the 2.0.A.0.504 build is 2.1. If you want to go back to 1.6 read this post from the beginning because the process I described above may work for X8. Regarding changes, besides the keyboard layout and a few apps that were in Portuguese, everything is the same, of course excluding the changes from 1.6 to 2.1.

One last thing. Before updating to 2.1 make sure you get the right build.prop for your region because you may end up breaking your data connection.

Problem is that the .504 build for X8 was never published by sony ericsson. We directly got the newer .47 build so there is no way to get the older build.

It seems that next in line with .47 build will be X10a mini:
E10a 2.0.1.A.0.47 0001 SONY US/BLACK [UNKNOWN]
E10a 2.0.1.A.0.47 0001 SONY US/PEARL WHITE [UNKNOWN]

From:
davinciteam.com/news-firmware.html

So it is a matter of time when other Xperia users will also have to deal with root problems.

    you need to to the manual way but it's verry easy.
    you can use bin4ry first part of her manual but in the second he has make some Mistakes. please type in the secon part:
    adb shell
    -> # cd /data/local/tmp
    -> # mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock0 /system
    -> # cat su > /system/bin/su
    -> # cat superuser.apk > /system/app/superuser.apk
    -> # chmod 06777 /system/bin/su
    -> # chmod 777 /system/app/superuser.apk
    -> # reboot

    I have found a way to root X8 2.1 rom, but its complicated for average user.
    Details in 2.1/2.2 dev thread.

    any working apps2sd for x8 eclair? 2.1

    Without root for 2.1 there's no apps2sd for 2.1..

    X10 firmware won't work on the x8 either it would need to be modified which means we would need recovery menu to flash the custom firmware, we don't have root for 2.1 so we can't get chargermon recovery to work...

    I have tried to get the x10 version working by modifying it for the x8 with 1.6 rooted but had no luck, I read that an x10 owner couldn't get it to work on 1.6 but when they updated to 2.1 it worked.

    Ive spent a lot of time trying to get a custom Rom onto the x8 but until 2.1 is rooted I don't think I will be able too... I have a Rom waiting though :)
