What about x-reality? Is it broken once you unlock the bootloader?

Thanks

It looks like that might be the case. I don't see a difference in photos when I toggle X-Reality on/off. But I never specifically looked at that features before I unlocked the bootloader. I guess we'd have to go back to stock and relock the bootloader to see..?

I'll take a look at Aur's thread and see what folks are saying. Do you mean that on his rom, X-Reality is working?

EDIT: I flashed back to the stock ROM and x reality is working. Will try and root again tomorrow and retest..

Hi guys,

I have a little problem since I installed the Kernel.
Somehow my mounting point of my external SD card isn't working 100%.
Although I can access it via total commander under /storage/sdcard1, although total commander doesnt show the SD card.on the front page. Before rooting procedure it was shown there. I think some apps can't write to the external card too, like for example Titanium Backup. I can select the folder to set it up as Backup Folder, but TA says it does not have write acess which is stupid since it has root.
Any help?

Could someone test if the USB over WiFi connectivity still works after rooting? It's the last option in the "Xperia Connectivity" settings. Thanks!

[ how to root ]

  • once you have flashed the kernel from the 1st post
  • download the latest SuperSU update.zip from: http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu
  • save it on sdcard of device
  • reboot into recovery
  • flash the supersu update.zip
  • reboot from recovery into OS
  • you should now get proper root access!

[ installing busybox ]

  • it is highly recommended to install busybox after rooting!
  • just go to andorid play store and download the busybox installer.
  • once the installer is downloaded, install busybox in /system/xbin
  • reboot device after install and thats it!

regards,

DooMLoRD

Its mandatory to use the custom kernel in order to root your phone? It would be nice on the 1st thread, to have all the problems the root can bring. Except the DRM Keys, what other apps doesn't work anymore.

Ty in advance!

Is that something do-able? I haven't in my property any other Sony in the past, is that something that have been achieved in the past, lets say in Z1 or Z?

Apparently so:

http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/root-xperi...81-kitkat-locked-unlocked-bootloaders-1441461

I'm not sure how long it took though. You could try asking a dev in the Z1 forum but things will probably have changed and given the limited availability of the device a time frame would be impossible to guess. The sooner this phone gets a global release and more dev's get their grubby little mitts on it, the faster things will move.

I'd personally rather wait for a locked solution but I'm getting itchy. :D

Maybe it's easier trying to find the exploit on z1 and z1 compact, already having official kitkat and widespread through users? Because I'm sure the exloit will be exactly the same as for the z2-series. So far since we aren't able to downgrade to any of pre 4.4 rom cause it doesn't exist probably it might be a faster solution, rather waiting for sony to produce enough phones for everybody. Or maybe I'm wrong?

I could not get Miracast, Screen Mirroring to work after rooting.

Does this work for anyone?

I'm thinking it might have to do with losing DRM keys. I can't even get my still locked Z2 to work with my miracast single I have for my app radio due to HDCP error.

I'm having a hard time living with out root but I guess I'll hold off on unlocking for now if it won't be possible to use miracast(I don't want have get a MHL adapter and undo a flap everytime I get into the car).

I don't think it has to do with the DRM keys because I read on other Xperia forums that relocking the bootloader brings back the ability.

You can research yourself cuz it's late and I don't remember where I found it; I googled "mirroring Xperia HDCP".

Further research show that Galaxy device owners were able to patch a lib file to enable this ability (skip HDCP check) but this means we need Devs to look into it.
