If Quick GPS can´t update the GPS Data it will take very long to get a fix.

The GPS data is storde in the file "packedephemeris.ee"

These File you can load here:

http://service.mio-tech.com/eeservice/packedephemeris.ee

YOu only have to replace it in the windows folder. Now the Data ist up to date.

Quick GPS shows that the Data is not valid but the Fix is much faster.

I hope this will help some people

Greetings meer

Wow, my GPS fix just went from prox. 4 min. to half a minute. Maybe i'm just lucky this time, but nice find man! Is this file being updated every day? Or once in a month or so?

Thnx for sharing this info :)

Anyone figured out yet how to trick QuickGPS into downloading this one instead of the one from the HTC servers?

disregard! see #6 for registry changes

You can try this without any warranty:
HKLM\\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\0\0\IP > service.mio-tech.com/eeservice/packedephemeris.ee
HKLM\\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\1\0\IP > service.mio-tech.com/eeservice/packedephemeris.ee
HKLM\\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\1\1\IP > service.mio-tech.com/eeservice/packedephemeris.ee

Never know if it works, cause I didn't try, I've found it in another forum.

If You will have a look at the original HTC file, it seems, as if it is (sometimes after downloading) corrupt, cause it has only a size of about 5kb instead of 50kb

The solution above will not work, because IP parameter is supposed to be only host name, and QuickGPS combines the full path based on the IP, Port, Folder and FileName.

So try this configuration - it works fine for me:

HKLM\\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\0\0\IP -> htcscm13.htc.com.tw
HKLM\\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\1\0\IP -> htcscm13.htc.com.tw
HKLM\\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\1\1\IP -> htcscm13.htc.com.tw
HKLM\\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\2\0\IP -> htcscm13.htc.com.tw
HKLM\\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\2\1\IP -> htcscm13.htc.com.tw

I do not have this problem but I checked on my Artemis and the above file is named "packedEphemeris.ee" Note the caps of the second E. That could let QuickGPS see a valid data when you use this method. :cool:

is it possible to do a registry entry for the internet explorer XDA ORBIT /Artemis HTC, that I can save the file directly to the windows folder?

It saves up alot of time, because of the delay opening the windows folder

Has anyone else noticed that this method stopped working a couple of days ago. I keep getting a message that 'connection failed. Please try again later'. It used to work fine.

I can still update manually via the web link given in this thread.

Any suggestions to get quickGPS working properly again would be appreciated?

Cheers

Link are changed couple day ago. Now links are:
http://www.htcusainc.com/clm/packedEphemeris.ee

Change you registry settings on right parameters in registry:

--------------eph.reg start------------------------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\0]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\0\0]
"IP"="www.htcusainc.com"
"port"=dword:00000050

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\1]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\1\0]
"IP"="service.htceurope.com"
"port"=dword:00000050

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\1\1]
"IP"="ftp.htceurope.com"
"port"=dword:00000050

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\2]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\2\0]
"IP"="htcscm13.htc.com.tw"
"port"=dword:00000050

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\2\1]
"IP"="htctsvr.htc.com.tw"
"port"=dword:00000050

--------------eph.reg end------------------------------

Thanks for this but if I use these settings, which are the same as my default shipped settings I can download a file but it's only 3.5k (the file if opened with notepad is some sort of html style-sheet). If I use the link earlier in this thread and download manually I get a 50k file (some sort of machine code). I'm sure that when I have the larger file the time taken to acquire a fix drops from about 5 mins to 20-40 seconds.

The earlier registry tweak used to give me the larger of the two files.

What is the file size of packedEphemeris.ee when you use quickGPS?

Cheers

A slightly better solution :

Replace the following ip's in the register:

Use resco reg edit or any other register editor.

HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\0\0\IP -> htctsvr.htc.com.tw
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\0\1\IP -> htctsvr.htc.com.tw
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\1\0\IP -> htctsvr.htc.com.tw
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\2\0\IP -> htctsvr.htc.com.tw
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\2\1\IP -> htctsvr.htc.com.tw

Here you go. now just use quickGPS to download the location file.

Yeah try it manually and check out the fix time. I'm indoors and it jumps from 4mins to less than a min.

Really annoying as the previous registry fix did used to retrieve the correct file. Tried tweaking various registry entries to get the

http://service.mio-tech.com/eeservic...edephemeris.ee

used just 'service.mio-tech.com' as my IP and changed the folder name etc in the root of the quickGPS registry entry but no luck as yet.

Sure I'm missing something simple

Tried this and getting the 3.9k packedEphemeris.ee file rather than the 50k file

It also tries to download the INI (CLM_SITE_LIST_UPDATE.INI) file specified from the server to update the registry server lists. Changing to the Mitac server will never work as that file never exists.

Could try using the QuickGPS program equivalent from a Mio A701, anyone got one?

I don't fully understand this, but is there a problem with the HTC data. Could we not pressure them to improve it

I really hope this stays live as it would be a real benefit to get a faster fix
