AFAIK, it's not possible. You can use Skype and make a paid outgoing. Or use Line. Or Hangouts... Hangouts can make video calls. I think voice calls also.

Just botched it trying method 2 and I've done these things before. Great!
Tablet's stuck with a black screen right before the white SAMSUNG logo appears and goes away but never boots up.
Suggestions? (guess I have some reading to do)

BACK UP NOW, Just used ODIN to load Stock ROM (before issues I was already on ICS Stock ROM FYI).

Help rooting Sgh i957 LTE att ICS 4.0.4
Hi am new here and excited to learn about the possibilities of a rooted android device. I have and old Samsung SGH I957 that I am trying to root corectly. I have read a ton of info on here about doing it. I found a lot of info on rooting with 3.0.2 here http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=2036537 on XDA (orlandoxpolice) and only one thread that tells how with 4.0.4 using a newer zip from 10.1 tab (Envision77) but he says it only works on P7300 or P7310. From what I have read these are different that my LTE att version and a different process needs to be used to root this thing. I found a thread here https://theunlockr.com/2012/11/07/h...overy-on-the-samsung-galaxy-tab-8-9-sgh-i957/. that explains how to CWMR this specific device but the next page talks about installing the .zip to the SDcard and selecting it in CWMR mode. The 1st method on orlandoxpolice's XDA thread also says to install from the SD card. This device has no SD card slot. It is very confusing and I want to get everything right the first time. I am in the unique position of trying to root and old device that seem like nobody is talking about any more on here. At least the LTE att version of this tablet. I am new here and I have scoured these threads. I see a lot of new people asking for help and not doing their research on here and just being lazy. I am not one of those people. I have been researching for a week now with no luck. I def am not falling for that iroot, kingroot, oneclickroot BS that is around that I have seen. It's only for 3.0.2. Any help with directing me to something that works with 4.0.4? Lots of 7300 7310 7320 and 7320t on here but from what I have read the root methods will brick the SGH I957.

Method 1
This is for people who want to keep the stock kernel. This will not trip the flash counter.
1. Download and Install the Samsung Drivers for your device. Install Kies, or the latest mobile drivers.

2. Download CWM Recovery (courtesy of utkanos)

2. Download Odin 1.85

3. Open Odin 1.85 as administrator
4. Place the CWMR.tar file in the PDA slot. (Make sure you do not have any boxes in the options panel checked besides the ones that were checked when opening the program - should only be auto reboot and f.reset time)
5. Place the tablet in download mode. Hold vol up + vol down and hold power until the device powers on into download mode. Hit volume up to proceed after the warning screen
6. Plug the tablet into the computer on a main usb slot and it will be detected by Odin in one of the ID:COM slots (will appear as yellow)
7. Hit Start - cwm recovery should will be flashed to the tablet. Tablet will restart.
8. Download superuser.zip from the skyrocket forums (courtesy Copperhed)

9. Copy superuser.zip to the tablet
10. Reboot into recovery (Power + Volume Up)
11. Navigate to 'Install zip from SD card' and select 'superuser.zip'. You will get an SD Card error when it is done installing, this is normal.
You are now rooted with stock kernel.
Method 2
This is Da_G's work. This will trip your flash counter.

Here's CWM flashable zips of the three available kernels for our device. Da_G's root kernel, his OC kernel, and the stock kernel. This should make it easy for everyone to switch between kernels without having to fire up Odin each time. I've tested each one quite a few times on my device.
All credit goes to Da_G, I just packaged them for my own convenience.2I wonder if installing CWM through odin, and then installing superuser.zip from this link would work...

Unzip it, flash it in the PDA of Odin, don't change any of the Odin checkboxes. That SHOULD get you back up to speed, since your bootloader is still intact (as indicated by the ! screen).
And as you may have figured out, there is no CWM for the 8.9 LTE right now...just the Root kernel, or the Root+OC kernel.
