The same exact thing happened to me today. Initially I didn't know what was happening and got scared that something had went wrong. Nook restarted itself and was fine and I still had root.

Its good to know that I still have root and the update failed...whatever advantages/disadvantages it had, i am happy hehe.

After rooted by NookManager, I can't sideload any apk from SD Card. The error is not enough space but I have 95MB left. Any idea?

What version do you use ?
In 0.4.1 this problem should be solved.
If it still occurs
use this as a temporary solution

and report this situation to 'jeff_kz'.

Getting paid apps onto nook
Is there any way to get paid apps onto the Nook. I can extract apks from my android phone but it installs the programs without maintaining the payment information. Understandable, but without market is there any other way I can get paid apps?

No piracy on XDA.
Go ask somewhere else.

Edit :

Sorry.. I misunderstood the question.

Have you tried using Titanium Backup?

If it would not work then I have a question.
Is it legal to "crack" apk using for eg. 'Lucky Patcher' if I already bought it on my other device?

thx osowiecki. I am so new to this adb and root.

In your posting, you said "script for 'Gscript' to launch these commands from within NOOK.
umount /sdcard
mount -t vfat /dev/block//vold/179:17 /sdcard"

How to run commands within NOOK?

It looks like saving your remount_sd.sh.zip on SD card and runs from there?

Sorry if it sounds too silly.

If you manage to connect do your Nook using ADB [wireless] that means "adb connect" , "adb shell" sends you to nook's shell
then you can proceed further.

First of all .. I' can't believe that installing apk's from sdcard still does not work. It was fixed and it worked for me.
What is your firmware version? Have you tried rooting the device once again using the latest 'NookManager'?

Running scripts from Gscript is a workaround.
If you really wan't to deal with this than try doing this :

1. Unmount 'nook' and 'sdcard' partitions in your Windows explorer. [if your nook is connected via usb cable to your PC]

2.
- adb connect [nooks ip]
- adb shell

paste
- umount /sdcard
- mount -t vfat /dev/block//vold/179:17 /sdcard
in your nook's shell console

3.Disconnect everything and see if you are able to install apk's from sdcard.

Gscript is just an application designed to run '.sh' scripts.
If above method does work then :
1. download 'Gscript.apk'
2. adb install gscript.apk
3. uzip my zip
4. place unpacked .sh in /sdcard/gscript/
5. Run Gscript and add script.

Market only works on 1.1 / 1.1.2 firmware
All the 'howtos' can be found in this forum.

Thanks osowiecki. The firmware was updated to 1.2.1 through B&N automatically before rooted. I used NookManager rooted NST a few times as I tried to get a replacement for DroidSansFallback.ttf with Chinese characters (it didn't work well after all so I rooted again using original DroidSansFallback.ttf provided by NookManager).

I tried to install FBReader through Amazon store but got nowhere. It didn't prompt me any error. So I attempted sideloading its APK on SD Card. This time I got an error of insufficient space.

Any idea?

Honestly I don't know if I can handle Gscript.

1. Adb install [apk name] should work no matter what.

2. Try to do this, root again and report back whether or not it helped.

If it does not help ask "jeff_kz" or "dq11" for help.
I don't have my "nook" anywhere near me so I can't perform any testing.

P.S
You do know how to set up ADB on Nook's side?
- connect to your wifi network
- run 'Konnekt' apk
- push connect button
On PC
- run cmd
- navigate to the folder that contains adb.exe
- adb.exe connect 192.168.1.xx
- adb.exe shell
- exit
- copy desired.apk to adb's folder.
- adb.exe install desired.apk
