Getting to optimal target resolution, can be done step by step, that's how I arrived at optimal resolution for Touch-HD.

1) Target resolution = 800*480
2) Aspect Ratio = 800/480 = 1.666666666666667
3) Now start tweaking one of the parameters, lets reduce the height to 348,
in order to maintain aspect ratio we have to multiply (1.666666666666667 * 348) = 580.000000000000116 ~ 580
4) Thats it !! now set your target resolution in the converter to 580*348 and see how it performs

Make sure you increase your bitrate to get sharper and better quality.
For Touch-HD, I use the following configuration:
Target Resolution = 540x384
Bitrate = 1500

Since I'm using Linux on all my systems but am also a little too lazy to try and find out the optimal ffmpeg-parameters for my Blackstone - would it be possible to get a non-compiled version of VideoConvertor? If it's java, it should probably be fixable for Linux too...

I'm having problems in converting a 720p mkv file to a WVGA (800x480) format. For some reason, the screen keeps getting stretched vertically. How can I make this program automatically fit a WVGA format in the settings?

Try the following configuration

What is your configuration? (Screenshot or generated .bat file will help).
Tried encoding a sample video, take a look at the configuration used...

The Touch Pro 2 fails at playing HTC-HD Profiled videos.

To play smooth videos on the Rhodium, change the resolution what I've found to be the optimal resolution: 640 x 384

I don't know why 800 x 480 doesn't work well...

Yes thats true, rendering video of that size requires better processor, even Touch-HD fails to perform well at that resolution. Thanks for sharing optimal resolution: 640 x 384 for touch-pro, will include that to profiles.xml.

I am looking at optimizing the perfomance at 800x480, its closely related to the codec used for conversion, will include this fix in the next release.

This is an awesome video converter.

But I'm having the same problem with 720p MKV files (1280 x 720). I'm trying to get them down to VGA size for the Touch Pro (640 x 480). (I'm using the Touch Diamond settings.) The files output are stretched vertically so far, that they're not usable. All other file types and sizes I've tried to convert have worked wonderfully.

So this seems to be an issue with any desired output size when using 720p MKV files.

If anyone has a way to get 720p MKVs to work successfully with this converter, please share how you did it. I hope that perhaps this can be improved upon in a future release.

I'm using a Herman (CDMA Touch Pro) with NRGZ28's 9/20 build of EnergyROM for that device. I have not had any problems viewing videos converted using the Touch Diamond 640 X 480 @ 512kbps settings. (With the exception of trying to convert 720p MKVs as I mentioned in my earlier comment, but that's a different issue.)

Have you who had problems with the Touch Pro 2 (Rhodium) tried using a better set of video drviers on your device?

That's great news. If there's a better converter for HTC touch style devices than this one, I don't know what it is :D .

Hi Darnell,
I haven't tested this on Touch Pro 2, but have played around with some drivers designed for HTC-HD Blackstone without any significant boost in video playback...

Very interesting that the Touch Pro does not seem to have any problems with output at 640 x 480, but the Touch Pro 2 and Blackstone need to have things at 640 x 384.
