thank

Here is a boot.img that I created for the experimental kernel. I used the zImage from the .zip and the initrd.img (ramdisk?) from CM9.1. I am not a dev so this boot.img may not even work. I did not test it because I am happy with the stable kernel.

You will still need to flash the experimental kernel zip to match modules or your wifi will not work.

PS: if you are not willing to Juopunutbear S-OFF your device, as I am not, you need to learn to live with the limitations of your device. Stick with stable releases, or download and teach yourself kernel kitchen so that you can build fastboot-ready boot.img from other formats. Requesting a feature in your somewhat unique format is not polite. Wanting to try the new experimental kernel is a great excuse to finally take the leap and S-OFF your device! (I personally prefer to keep mine S-ON because I like staying fresh with adb, fastboot, cygwin, kernel kitchen, and all that.)

Judging by the sentence fragment/broken English style of your post, you probably tl;dr this so.... you're welcome for the boot.img. I almost hope it works :)

thank you very much I will try,
I have not been able to do S-OFF since my HBOOT version is 1.45.0013
I could only unlock HTCdev
thank you very much indeed for your attention
excuse my English

Good idea. I'll try to add it to the kernel version.

Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using xda app-developers app

Been running the R4 experimental kernel all day - battery life is amazing etc using 1900mah Anker. I love it, and appreciate that you took my feedback and are trying to improve the releases.

The only thing that seems a little odd is the network speed. When using Speedtest on wireless OR WiFi, speeds are as fast as expected based on other devices and ROM's I've got, however, when downloading through the app store or updating my cached stations with slacker it crawls.... I'm also very new to Android 4+, so maybe it's some setting I've not found yet?

If there are any logs I could prepare and share, let me know - I'm still learning this stuff or I'd already have more details available.

Keep it going! :)

How does it battery life compare to r3?
Your data speeds may be due to network signals... You getting a strong signal?

Battery Life:

Using R4 experimental I'm doing VERY well.. Been listening to Slacker Radio literally for 8 hours or so, lots of IM's through IMO Messenger, a little browsing... Read for about half an hour through Google Play books - looks like it will die after about 14 hours on my Anker 1900mah. Wifi and Wifi Calling, push emails, all enabled the whole time.

Speed observations:

Well, as I said, when I run Speedtest.net (from the Google Play Market App) I get 30mb+ down, 20mb+ up WiFi speeds, but when I get an app through the store, or sync my cached radio stations it's taking massively longer. For example, a typical app being a few mb should take 15-30 seconds to download and install. Since switching to this ROM, it's taking 2-4 minutes to download, then seconds to install. Syncing my three stations in Slacker Radio for the last two years has taken maybe 3-5 minutes per station.. It took me over an hour both on my home network and on my works wifi today. This was with both the R3 and R4 kernels.

For now, I think it makes more sense to troubleshoot using the wireless, since it's easier to establish what should be a good speed. The typical T-Mobile data speeds I see around here are in the 6-10mb down, and 4-6 up.

I guess my real curiosity is why Speedtest is super fast, but download attachments to emails, downloading apps, and syncing my radio are taking exponentially longer than I've experienced on either this device, or my G2/Desire Z.

First thing I would try doing is resetting all your connections on both ends. If that doesn't work, then try dirty flashing the whole rom again

Dirty flash, meaning without clearing caches?

Wipe cache and dalvik but not data, system, etc... in other words, not a full wipe.

Btw, so far r4 exp kernel is sweet. I will give a few warnings.... if using lulz, hotplug, ondemandx governors, DON'T use profiles on cpu control apps like setcpu, etc. It seems to cause kernel panics and reboots especially when streaming music or other cpu intensive activities while screen off. NOT TO WORRY... most of these super customized governors are set to clock very low (some turn off a core processor) when sleeping/screen off. This link might help some out there to explain governors, I/O schedulers, etc. Great reference tool to have handy! http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1369817

v6 Supercharger

Has anyone set v6 supercharger up on this version of CM9.1 or CM9 even? Last time I tried setting this up on our phone I got stuck in a boot loop. Not trying to have that happen again.

So I recently pushed the R4 full rom over itself (removing the experimental kernel in the process) as described above, and timed a full refresh of my slacker radio.

2:42pm I started, and it completed at 2:50 - MUCH better (pretty much what I'm used to). However, I'm not sure if this is due to the ROM or the kernel, so I'll flip to EXP and try again soon. One thing I'm trying to figure out is if I'm seeing issues with WIFI calling staying enabled with the R4 EXP. It seemed like all day every few minutes it was reconnecting me. On the base Kernel it seems fine though.

Anyone else with R4 experimental having WIFI Calling reconnects constantly?

Alright, so the overlay of R4 appears to have resolved the WiFi Calling instability, and my data speeds. This includes using the R4 experimental Kernel.

Maybe overlaying the R4 experimental Kernel onto R3 ROM was not as "complete" an upgrade as originally expected?

At this point, the ROM seems a little too stable and fast.. I don't trust it!

anyone experiencing more battery drain on exp r4? i thought it was cuz i just flashed over the existing install, but i did a fresh install today and it's still there...i think it's when wifi is active, but it's pretty significant drain when it's on.

If you're S-ON the provided kernel that someone made does not appear to have been done right. I can't get it to work properly myself. However if you flash the boot.img provided with the R4 rom it works like a charm.

I flashed the experimental kernel and still can't get wifi to turn on... wiped cache and dalvik before, for both installs... ideas?

problem

As said above, ics aosp roms frequently have issues with USB transferring. Mount USB storage in recovery, works well there

It is not only low transfer speeds in my case, when I try to copy a file larger than 100 mb maybe disconnect the PC and presents only error, can not copy file path not found.
When I copy files from phone to pc is otherwise no problems and very fast copy regardless of file size, so just never removed. My OS is XP 32 bit, and my SD is 16 GB class 6

Same here. A work around solution is to mount USB from recovery and do it that way. Works perfectly for my device.

Hastily spouted for your befuddlement

Could your SD card maybe be formatted to the wrong file system? It's been a while but I don't think FAT is compatible with FAT32 or NTFS since it's 16-bit.
