I'm troubleshooting my nexus7 and was wondering if the device will power up without a battery at all? (obviously connected to a usb charger)

No but it will power up with 5v applied to the battery terminals not sure how good this is for a motherboard designed for 3.7v but it has been done side effects are battery level constantly shown as 0% and the time/date are lost on powering down and unplugging
