http://code.google.com/p/photon-android/downloads/list

Note for people willing to fine tune their GPS region
http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1236142

Note for people updating their existing system:
/!\ Make sure to do a backup in any case (titanium backup seems to work well)
  • if you are using [r167] from google page:
No need to format your SD card or delete apps or whatever:
Copy everything from archive exept system.ext2 at root of your sdcard, run haret as usual and you are good to go!

  • if you are using [10/07/2011 r134++] from google page:
Lucky you, you dont need to format your SD card or delete apps or whatever:
Copy everything from archive exept system.ext2 at root of your sdcard, run haret as usual and you are good to go!

  • if you are using munjeni release:
you can try to do the same: overwrite everything exept system.ext2, run haret and see if it still works :D

  • if your android is not working well after partial update:
then you will have to do a clean upgrade (delete all and copy). use a backup program (titanium or other) and enjoy!

I want to confirm with this release Speed is better, battery is better,

but, there is something I want to report

1. Camera work with snapshot, however there s not button to capture so we must long press for camera to auto focus and capture. A button on screen to capture is a must :) (the message is "press the optical trackball to capture with I know there s no trackball for our photon)

2. Problem is similar for video capturing, however It s more severe because there s no way to capture video with long press

3. Youtube still not work correctly, I hear the sound but there is no image and after that I can not turn the sound off even youtube has been force close.

4. Advertising issue, most custom android has a good host file to prevent ad, I attached a good host file here and it prevent 99% ad we get on android, that help apps run faster

R 169

Really good release thanks to all developers who are working on it. It's really useable. Android running really smooth I think it's faster than previous releases. Also second boot was fast about ~ 25 seconds.

3G/EDGE/GPRS: Working (Very stable.)
Battery: Working (Consuption is between 3-10 mA in suspend mode.)
Boot Animation: Beatiful
Camera: Working
GPS: Working (Also change of GPS zone for faster GPS tracking.)
Time: Working (I didn't notice any shifts after 3 hours of using. Even in sleep mode no shifts.)
G sensor: Working
L Sensor: Working
Touch Screen: Working
USB: Working (Through Droid Explorer.)

Other stuff like Charging and Wi-Fi I'll try later.

place the 3G fix from first post after your first boot (android already installed on sd card)

Hi there,

Everything is working fine; great job!!! Owesome.

But.... the only thing is that 3G is still nog working. After the fix (and before) it says that the com.android.phone process is unexpectically stopt.
Giving in a pin will result in functioning only for a few seconds and than again the same issue.

Do you have a solution Robin?

Thanks a lot!

    Dear followers,

just to give you a little "Update":

    Is the Project dead?
definitely not, we are still working on it, nearly every day

    What are we working on?
Currently we are working on acoustic drivers, that means: audio routing to speaker, handsfree, headset, fm, bluetooth etc, and all the things concerned with it like echo, volume etc etc

    What is our progress?
That's not that easy to say or to explain, let's say we have incall-volume and routing roughly working

    Do we need help?
Help is always welcome, but if we have to explain first, how the things are working its not really helpful but time comsuming.

Why dont we work on NAND boot?
we will, but at the moment there are many things - like the acoustic driver - that have to be fixed first. For example if we boot our latest release from nand no audio would work.

When will be the next release?
when we have to release something

Why don't we post on the forum?
I can only talk for me: There is nothing to say, many people are arguing against me but i don't feel like it, so i decided not to feed the trolls. It is also not my diction to anounce big fixes without having a result, likes others do. You will always get what you see.

How can others watch your progress?
everybody should know we have a google page: http://code.google.com/p/photon-and... Type Status Priority Milestone Owner Summary
you can see there what we are working on
    12
    hey guys,

just to keep you up to date:
our status of acoustic development: http://htc-linux.org/wiki/index.php?title=PhotonAcousticDevelopment

as you can see almost everything but FM and BT is fixed so far, we wish we could release that, but still having a little "reboot" problem when a call is missed.

we were a little bit out of time last weeks but dont worry we are still on it :)

    Hi,
I'd like to share my experience regarding battery life. First when I installed this ROM, I did not know it needs any tweaking for power. I only did a hard reset of my Mini HD and followed the installation instruction. I was getting around 10 Hrs of power with my normal use, which was, around 10 -15 mins voice calls plus wifi for a few mins just to sync. After reading the [Howto]Tips n tricks for better battery life thread, I tried to follow it all but ended up just using the first point e.g. GSM auto (PRL) selection. Don't remember where but I also found a suggestion to change brightness in WM from Auto to manual. I set it at 30%. Also in Android I am using 30% brightness. I got a battery life of over 24 Hrs with similar usage. I then read about something about turning off the Time Auto Update disable in Android. I did that, There was something about disabling something else, but I couldn't find it. Instead I disabled Background Data in Accounts and Sync. I don't know if it has anything to do with power but I also disabled auto rotate using a widget. Today I got more than 36Hrs and still going and I used the voice a lot more than normal for 2 days. I'm very happy with the power finally. I'm sorry if these are all known facts, but I just wanted to share. BTW, I am using Go Launcher EX with the Task Manager Widget that I use to close background applications from time to time. 8 GB Class 4 Sandisk MicroSD HC card.
    Thanks.

    battery usage survey

just did a comparison between WM6 and android (R169). First I used the tips from tzacapaca ( http://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=17121059&postcount=1 ) which helped to reduce the sleep current to ~4mA. Then I used task panel to kill all applications. First I checked the effect of brightness of the illumination.
    The results are (wifi,3G off):

    HDM Mini WM6.5:
    with carrier:
    0% illu: 22mA
    50% illu: 62mA
    100% illu: 150mA

    flight mode:
    0% illu: 10-15mA
    50% illu: 55-60mA
    100% illu: 120-130mA

    SD1: adata 8gB class 4

    HDM Mini Android R169:
    with carrier
    0% illu: 110mA
    50% illu: 159mA
    100% illu: 220mA

    flight mode:
    0% illu: 110-120mA
    50% illu: 160mA
    100% illu: 210-220mA

    SD2: Kingston 4gB class 4
    HDM Mini Android R169:
    with carrier
    0% illu: 98mA
    50% illu: 146mA
    100% illu: 210-220mA

    flight mode:
    0% illu: 98mA
    50% illu: 146mA
    100% illu: 210-215mA

In addition, I asked on the Aria forum for their consumption. I got 2 responses:

    ARIA1:
    Flight mode:
    0% - 41-61mA
    50% - 81-121 mA
    100% - 191-220 mA

    Aria2:
    0% illu: 107mA
    50% illu: 178mA
    100% illu: 218mA

    flight mode:
    0% illu: 70mA
    50% illu: 119mA
    100% illu: 179mA

Conclusion is that we are not far off from the Aria, except when in flight mode, that the consumption is much higher than with WM6.5 and that another SD card seems to differ about 10mA.

I then kept my illumination at 50% with the 8gB SD card:
Switching on wifi with just being connected and no activities does not add anything to the current. Same for BT and data connection
    Sygic aura 2.1: 240mA
Angry birds season: 240 to 325mA
    Twitter: 200 to 260mA
    Browsing the web: 190-340mA
    Checking mail: 230mA
    Google maps: 230-390mA
    Orux maps with internal GPS:230-240mA
Orux maps with external GPS via BT:165mA
I will try some more in the near future, also with WM6.5
