Slightly off topic as we are talking Desire, but I was thinking the same thing. I have limited availability to my build env at the moment. I was hoping to get the sources to this stage for the desire and post a thread similar in desire section.

At the moment, I am having issues with the AudioFliger and MediaPlayer parts though so not done a full complile yet. I'll resync the original /frameworks back over the weekend and try again.

Ok, i red the OP and tring to figure out the problem (as i said i cant really work on sources now, so i have to try to help you without building directly). Can you please contact me in PM and explain a bit more? Or maybe later (it's about 4.38AM here, i just wanted to have some water and now i'm sitting in the kitchen writing here with the phone lol) we can have a chat in the IRC channel you can find me at #ics_desire_port @freenode (just search freenode on Google and you'll find the webchat) at about 8.30/9 pacific, let me know via PM.
Hope to hear you soon

Flashable .zip?
This is great, how hard would it be to create a flashable .zip file to install from?
