are you tethering or using wifi? did you try clearing data and cache of google play app?

i have the same problem, i use wifi, but how to clear data and cache of google play app?
I believe this is the sequence:
Settings>applications>manage applications>select application (once selected, you will be given a choice to clear data).
Hope this solves your problems.
