Mine seems OK, except it has a squishy left bezel with the "distortion" if you apply pressure. Not sure if it's worth getting a replacement from Google.

Actually if I apply firm pressure anywhere on the display I see a bit of "distortion" around the edges. It's really hot right now where I live. Could this affect it?

Screen on my brand new N7 is lifting on the left portion for me too. It's not the aesthetic that's bothering me as much as the loose and mushy feel of pressing anywhere on the left.

On a side note, the color on the display appears washed out and is very pale.

This is why I don't think it's worth getting a replacement as MOST users on here report the squishy bezel. I don't think it will affect day-to-day use but it's just a bit annoying.

My battery is draining really fast, the last 2 hours from 50% to 45% while it is even in sleep mode and no other apps running except the usual google service and system. Does anyone else have this battery problem? Also when held in portrait position, the left side of the screen in the middle is starting to pop out slightly and I can push it back down but it doesn't stay at all. Smaller section of the screen on the right side is popped out as well. I got mine from gamestop. I don't know how many 1st batch of units have problems but looks like the problems are similar for the ones posting on here. Gamestop said, the 2nd wave of units will perhaps be delivered in Aug and I really hope the 2nd batch of units don't have these problems.

Just got mine...

I got mine about an hour ago... I placed the order on July 10th from Google Play Store.

At first everything was ok; no light bleeding, no dead pixels, the screen was properly placed and it didn't make any sound when I pressed the bezel. I thought I was lucky to get a flawless one. However, after using about 30 mins, the right side of screen started to rise and now it's making this weird CLICK noise when I push it down...

But the really weird thing is it goes back to normal when I don't use it. The bezel goes down and it does not make any noise when I press it. However, whenever it comes back up when I start to use it.....

This is a little disappointing.... It's a great tablet for the price for sure and I really like JB, It feels so much smoother!!!
Yet, I do not want to keep a defective product.

Should I ask Google for a replacement? or Should I just get a refund and wait for ASUS to recognize their problem and fix it and then buy it again from a retail store....(where I can ask for a replacement right away....)

What are you guys gonna do?

Ok guys, looking for some opinions. I received mine from the Play Store today and all seems pretty good actually. I did notice a very slight screen raise on the left side like a lot of people are reporting, but not bad at all. Not nearly as bad as some that I've seen and heard about. Other than that there are no dead pixels, no light bleeding and not much else wrong.

I am thinking of just rolling with this one for now and see how the screen progresses. If it doesn't get worse, I can definitely live with this. Should I do that or just try and get a warranty exchange now? If I do, do I go through Google directly or Asus? How long is the manufacturer warranty for?

Thanks!

No clear light leakage here, but the screen lift / easy give on the sides was the first thing I noticed. Complete with cringe-worthy pop.

I'm in the same boat as you. Mine is raised slightly. I don't think I would have noticed if I hadn't read this thread.

1. I would stick with the one you have for now.
2. Warranty is provided by ASUS. Exchanges and returns are probably handled through the place of purchase.
3. Manufacturer warranty is 12 months or 1 year, which ever comes first.

Should I send mine in for a replacement? I think this is a crack. It feels smooth where the crack appears to be, but I'm afraid it will eventually break off.

I completely agree which is why I'm leaning towards keeping it for now or at least until it possibly gets worse. But if it doesn't, I think I will be fine. I am like you, I would have never noticed it if not for this thread.

That's why I hate reading these type of threads. ;)

That definitely looks cracked. Send it back.

This is exactly how I feel about my device. It's almost not even noticeable (have to look at it very closely at just the right angle to see). Hopefully it doesn't get worse. I'm more concerned about not having a case yet. Ordered one yesterday, but it won't arrive until next week.

I tought I would post this here also:

The build quality of these tablet is not very good, especially when compared to the Galaxy Tab 2... I had one of those and it was a tank! The build quality was superb maybe even better than some Ipads I have seen.

I bought my nexus from sams club, and had the same screen separation issue and it had a small dent on one side, replaced it with another one, the screen on the new one is fine but this one also had a small scratch in one of the corners, Im not super picky but still when I buy something new I expect it to be in said condition...

This might be my last ASUS product ever.... their Quality control is pretty much non existent.

If it wasnt for the performance to price ratio I would have gone a different route, Ill still enjoy it tho. Just wish so many of us didnt have these problems.

Can anyone with this issue make a short video? I've been paranoid about this while waiting. My device has been fine even after 30 minutes of dead trigger, but I can't help but worry.

I have a theory too, nothing in life is perfect, or pristine. Even the hottest super model gets a pimple on her ass from time to time, and I wouldn't ship her off just because of a blemish. No company makes a perfect product, and people, due to an irrational OCD with electronics want it 100% perfect, and as long as people are assembling these products, there will be imperfections. The sad part is, the vast majority of the things people return electronics for do not impact the use of the product, and are barely visable to the naked eye. We love to put everything under a microscope, though. Gotta have something to freak out about, I suppose.

Soooooo everyone should just be happy with their defective N7's because a product working 100% the way it is supposed to is too much to ask for?
I pre-ordered mine from the Play Store on the 28th with the case. I have received no word or email or nothing yet on when/if mine is being shipped. Not a peep. Though it does bring a tiny sparkle to my eye to see all the people that bashed Google just because Gamestop was giving them out so early, only for so many of the GameStop ones to have issues thus far.

I hope mine is flawless. If it has lightbleed issues, Ill return it depending on how severe. If it has flickering issues, those wont bother me unless it is severe and happening with just about every page refresh etc. If mine has a little separation from the back of the device, I'll first try to push it back in place, if that doesn't work, I will throw my cover on there and see if that helps with the issue. If not and the squeaking becomes a nuissance from just normal use rather than being a very very occasional thing, I'd probably return it.

For me it all depends on the severity of the issue I may encounter if it is worth the trouble of having it replaced.
But my original point: It is not unreasonable for every single person that ordered a Nexus 7 to have a completely defect-free device.
So your "not everyone or everything is perfect!" argument is just flawed and invalid.

My screen doesn't lift but I'm noticing a little creaking on the left side. It only happens really when I squeeze the tablet which I normally wouldn't do. Am I being picky thinking about returning it or should I be happy my screen is level and just live with it?

Take my advice. If everything else is working properly, keep it. It's not worth nitpicking over something like this and then getting another unit with worse problems. You'll regret it.

Excellent device but mine isn't flush on the right side of the screen. (Portrait)
After a few hours of use it's starting to pop if you press midway on the bezel.

The problem seemed to be getting worse today but after hearing it's just a clip (not glue) - I resorted to force.
I needed to put quite a bit of pressure (more than seems safe) to do it, but it has properly clicked back into place now.
Smooth the side back into place then pinch it firmly with your thumb and forefinger in the middle of your 'rise'.
(turn your screen off if you're squeamish - you will hear a loud click when it goes back in)

    DEFINITELY FIXED :good:

WARNING: THIS CAN BREAK YOUR SCREEN

For clarity, I didn't have any dents in the bezel. Try to spread any pressure on the screen side. Pinch the bezel together, not the lcd panel.
Your problem might be different to mine, so try this at your own risk.

all those sold by the play store were recalled from their shipping hubs due to ASUS's defects. Hence the delay. When we receive our devices, they should be defect free.

Please stop making things up. People might start believing it.
    2
They may have had a flaky bunch initially, but my personal theory is that these defects are occurring because it's been so hot this summer (at least in the us). Just hear me out out on this one: they put your pristine N7 in the back of xyz shipping truck, which then promptly heats up to over 100 degrees in the summer sun. At that temp, the metal starts expanding, the glue softens, you get a timely bump in the road, and BAM you have a damaged device. That seems plausible, at least to me. Another thing to worry about, as my N7 is coming fro. CALIFORNIA into the hot south.
