We can have an ezroot kernel if we either set the /system partition. As rw (read/write) instead of read only or set in the default.prop the following: ro.secure=0 & persist.service.adb.enable=1, then there's root in "adb shell" to remount the system partition as rw.
Is it a boot.img or initram packed zImage we're dealing with?

nop but it works on AT&T (my phone is an AT&T)
Never mind! Duh! Sorry...
So the boot2.zip that is 3.9MB in size that was in the old post yesterday is compatible with at&t? If so what is the difference between that and the I927UCKI3_STOCK_ROOTED.tar.bz2 file that is 292.8 MB in size that was posted here http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1364740
I believe you need to read more carefully, it is written in the OPNever mind! Duh! Sorry...

indeed better to keep them dissociatedCheck the first post; I've been updating as I make progress. Unfortunately no one gets notifications when I do.
I've received reports that you can use the Rogers (CIQ-free) kernel (secure or insecure) against the AT&T rom.
EDIT Argh. Getting threads confused. Sorry, check the first post of:

^^ that thread.
It's an ongoing technical thread about rooting / rom development, where this thread is intended to be a detailed guide with the latest (safe) information.
Okay now I am getting it. I understand everything posted there except "Then, install your mode 6755 su binary into /system/xbin" could you please explain. I'm in no rush, reply when ever you have the time. Thanks again...Check the first post; I've been updating as I make progress. Unfortunately no one gets notifications when I do.

Like described in the OP the rom and the kernel are two different things.I'm still getting the write error/Fail when trying to follow the instructions as I posted earlier: http://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=20023701&postcount=5
Do I need to do anything else?
I have Odin v1.85, Do I need a newer/updated PIT file [Is there such a thing]?
So i need to boot into e3 and clear cache?
Lambgx02 mentions a boot.img file. How does one use that to flash the rom?
Pls advise.

if you just want to be rooted, just flash the rom if you want be carrierIQ free, then the kernel is also necessary
Hey Carpe,
Thanks for the reply. Yes I am aware of the differences. I only need to do the ROM as I already have the Rogers Kernel. But I get the error when I click start after selecting the Rogers Tar file provided by lambgx02. Before I click start I also ensure that windows is picking up the device as well when in download mode.
Just out of curiosity what slot are you putting the tar file in?
1.try a different USB port.Hey Carpe,

1.try a different USB port.
2.enable USB debugging
3.make sure you run as administrator
4.heimdall maybe?
There is already a thread for this... reporting for locking.

indeed but you still need ODIN to flash the recoveryI have found that the faster new way to root the phone is to flash CWM first and then flash the rooted kernel from here http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1468626 via CWM. Took me a few minutes to do.
