I don't have much of an opinion of PTT myself but the fact that Cingular would release a ROM that made button 5 on my TyTN unusable was very aggravating to me. I'm quite used to pressing button 5 to bring up voice command. Imagine having it now hard-coded to a lame dialog box...
Even worse, the Cingular 8525 will drop with this same lame dialog box, hard coded to button 5, in place. They won't actually have PTT until 2007 since PTT functionality itself needs to be added to their WCDMA network to be usable by this device. This means that early adaptors of the 8525 will only have 4 programable buttons.
However, thanks to this little project's successful completion, I'm now pleased to say "Not any more". The dll on page 1 adds complete programmable functionality back to button 5.
I'm even hoping that when Cingular actually releases PTT services for the 8500 series that I'll be able to give it's owners the choice to attach it to either the press or the press/hold function, in either case leaving one function free for use by other apps such as Voice Command or Voice Dialer.
