can the boot image be of ubuntu arm light be used?

and would all the normal Debian and ubuntu apps wok r they have to specifically be compiled for Linux arm?

Question java on debian
I tried the ubutu light images and it did not boot but the Debian on worked perfectly
I am very impressed i didn't expect on this low amount of ram

I found this java for Debian armv6 and a way to install it on chroot debian

but i cant find a way to get the file onto the virtual Debian and I cant get into the browser it gives me a fail to execute default web browser input/output error

???
