I don't even have Android SDK on my computer. Had no problems with this root method. Just plug in the phone, wait for it to find and install hardware. Good to go.

Zip package comes with ADB. It depends if you have SDK on your machine. Lot of users install it but don't use it and have outdated packages. So, first things first troubleshooting... update the SDK.

So my phone just updated ( did not do it on purpose) and I no longer have root I was wondering how you are still able to be rooted? also does anyone know if mototchopper still works and also does anyone know if I can return to stock via odin and re root

Worked great on my Tmobile S4. Kept stopping at "daemon successfully started" I went to the drop down menu on the home screen clicked on connected as media device, then unchecked connected on Media device (MTP) then checked Camera (PTP). Windows automatically downloaded additional drivers. I tried again and it worked perfectly. Thanks!!

The version of SuperUser included in Motochopper seems to be the updated one by ClockworkMod. That's what is currently installed on my phone. So does that mean we can't get rid of the "lock" icon on bootup without removing it in favor of SuperSU?
At this moment I do not think there is a solution to have it removed with the SuperUser from ClockWorkMod/Koush which is included in the original zip. I have updated my earlier post.

I can confirm that if you did update and lose root you can just simply follow the instructions in the OP and you can gain root access again

Odd behavior since rooting, anyone?

Has anyone had any odd behavior since rooting? I have noticed that the screen rotation while texting and such, has a long delay now since rooting.. Additionally, I have had several instances where swiping the phone to answer the call does nothing until several rings..Almost like the phone is locked up..

Is there a way to completely remove the root if desired, or does the whole phone need to reflashed with Odin?

Thanks

Rick

You guys that are saying you can confirm that you lose root after new update BUT regain root just by redoing the root steps again......
Well that is not the case here.. I lost root and can not get it back. Only reason i did the update was that the few confirming it was ok to update and could get root back by following the steps over again.. :(

Hopefully there will be another way to root again soon.

A recent root exploit I published for Motorola devices, Motochopper, should do the trick for rooting the Qualcomm-based variants of the Samsung Galaxy S4, including the AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile branded models.

    Download the exploit here:
    http://vulnfactory.org/public/motochopper.zip

    Instructions:

    1. Extract the entire contents of the zip file.
    2. If you are using Windows, ensure you have installed the latest Samsung USB drivers available for your phone.
    3. Ensure USB Debugging mode is enabled on your device.
    4. Connect your device to your PC via USB.
    5. If you are using Windows, navigate to the extracted directory and execute "run.bat". If you are using Linux or OS X, navigate to the extracted directory in a terminal and execute "./run.sh".
    6. Approve the ADB connection from your PC on your device.

    Warning:
At this point, since there are no custom recoveries or stock images available, it may not be possible to repair your device should you accidentally break it. Please be aware of this before performing any modifications to your phone.

As always, future OTA updates may remove the ability to regain root access, so proceed with caution when updating. Enjoy!

debugging is on, installed usb drivers and im on Win7 64bit.

Device manager shows ADB driver installation too...

Sorry about that, just needed to update the version of ADB I was including. It should work fine now. Try downloading a fresh copy from the same link and trying again.

I've updated the instructions to mention that you will need to approve the ADB connection from your PC on the device.

I tried to send a PM to @djrbliss but he has it disabled.

CASUAL handles Windows, Linux, and Mac in a single Java JAR. you can open it up and go into the /SCRIPTS/ folder then open the SCR to see your code rewritten in CASUAL format.

The benefeit of CASUAL scripting is that it performs troubleshooting for the user

    Download http://d-h.st/64i

Anyway, i always rewrite in CASUAL format because its more useful to have a single file that works on all platforms rather than a zip file that has differences for each.

Although I love that this was found...part of me feels it should be in the other dev section...as this method isnt exactpy "original" its a methid for a different phone that just so happens to work...just my .02

Anyways as I already stated edtremly greatful...nice to have root again

Its more original than anything else that will be in this forum. djrbliss is the originating other of the exploit, and the person that located the vulnerability used.
