Windows XP requires a different version of zadig, ever since the Win8 DDK was released (circa Nov 2012). You'll have to have two different driver installers if you want support both Win8 and XP

Sent from my SGH-I747 running RootBox 3.9.1
I don't support XP. In fact, when installing drivers I have a warning to the user that its not supported and mentioning that the OS is 13 years old. I will not support XP. Switch to Linux. Running XP is a security hazard.

Where do I find these versions?

Windows XP:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/libwdi/files/zadig/zadig_xp_v2.0.1.160.7z/download

Vista/7/8:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/libwdi/files/zadig/zadig_v2.0.1.160.7z/download

I'm not sure this will fix the problem, but it's worth a shot.

When your phone goes into download mode run Zadig, then from Options select "List All Devices", from the drop down select "MSM8960", and then click install. Once the install completes, Heimdall should see your device.

Do you have any answers for my above post?

I know I should be patient... but I'm ready to root my phone! This looks like a magically easy way to do so on my MacBook... so, I'm anxious! LOL

I do have an Acer Netbook that I could try this on though. It's just pretty basic, so I hate doing anything on it other than have my kids use it for school and online games. :p

We'll be working on CASUAL this evening and I'm sure he'll be updating the OP with new builds when they are available.
Other than the driver, its pretty cut-n-dry on Windows, you can always try it on the netbook :)

Word. We will be ready soon. jrloper has reworked the driver system with his CADI app. So we have some good changes for Windows coming.
I've actually been doing development on CASUAL using the GS3 root as a primary test script.

Thanks guys! I'll try out the Netbook and let you know how it goes. I'm still willing to try my MacBook when it's ready for that, just so you know if it works. :)

Success!

I ended up using my Netbook. Here's my stats and experience.

Acer Aspire One D270-1410
Windows 7 Starter
AT&T SGS3 with Jelly Bean.

  1. Casual wouldn't recognize my SGS3 until I installed the driver package from the Samsung website.
  2. I restarted my laptop after installing the driver package.
  3. Ran Casual.
  4. It pulled up Zadig (very nice, informative screen btw).
  5. (*This part isn't helpful. My brain is blank, and I can't remember what it said specifically. But, if you ask me, I could probably easily verify it if it's said. The informative screen wanted me to click on something. But, it wasn't displaying the option requested. I still selected the one that was like it, and clicked on the tab. It didn't do anything. So, I clicked on something else, and that worked, so I exited out, and Casual continued.)
  6. Then, it wanted me to download something with a C+ I think? I did that.
  7. Everything else went through, and now I have a device w/ superuser on it.
Thanks! Really this was the most professional rooting application I've used. Not to mention that I loved the direction screen that came up with Zadig - and on the Casual screen as well! I didn't realize that it was showing directions until right before I exited out of Zadig.

They all say no on connected and the 2 USB root hubs have unknown for their device type and Generic USB hub has a blank for device type and i don't know what they mean but i know nothing will work on my usb ports or sdcard is there a way to re enable them?

Ok guys, I've been putting work into CASUAL for Windows and Linux. Mac is still experimental. Here's how this works: I'm comitted to providing an easy way to root your device and you provide me with feedback, positive or negative. All I'm asking for is if it worked or where it failed and what type of computer you're using.

    Introduction
This root method should be about the easiest one ever created. You launch the java JAR file and click "Do It". CASUAL will take care of installing drivers, runtimes, providing clear and easy-to-understand instructions. I want this to be easy and if there's something that can be improved, let me know.

    Instructions
    1. Click here and make sure Java is up-to-date (not JavaScript that you hear about all the security vulnerabilities, Java).
    2. Download and launch CASUAL
    3. Plug in your device
    4. click "Do It!"
note: if it asks you to install drivers, you want to do MSM8960.

    Download
    Download Root AT&T GS3 - CASUAL Revision 515b

    http://goo.im/devs/AdamOutler/GS3-Root-ATT-Can

    30jlfzd.png

    Conclusion
Again, this is a test of CASUAL. I want to improve it. I would like your help in getting feedback to improve the Cross-platform ADB Scripting Unified Android Loader platform. I need to confirm that this works on all operating systems.

    Test list:
Crossed off means it was tested.

    High Priority OS's
    Windows 7 -32 bit
    Windows 7 - 64 bit

    Windows 8
    OSX Lion
    OSX Mountain Lion

    Debian based Linux 64
    Debian based Linux 32

Raspberry Pi running Debian based distributions

    Low Priority OS's
    Windows XP 32
    Windows XP 64
    OSX Tiger
    OSX Leopard
    OSX Snow Leopard

    Releases
    CASUAL R302b - Initial release
CASUAL R306b - fixed freezing on Linux64, needs retesting on Windows and Mac.
CASUAL R308b - fixed freezing on Windows by reorganizing data collection. This may be an error on Windows Java where reading Error Stream too quickly causes a crash.

If you find a problem, or even find a solution, please let me know. I am subuscribed to this thread.

Very Nice my friend will have to try this if my wife lets me root her Galaxy AT&T:good:, Do have a question does this trip your counter like Odin one Does, Also i see you got Windows 7 64 bit cross off i only use 64 bit on Windows 7 will this work on 64 bit?

Yes. It will trip the flash counter. This is part of the Loke daemon on the device and I cannot change that. You can use Triangle Away to remove the counter.

I'm crossing off operating systems which have been tested. As feedback comes in, they will be crossed off or have a note put by them until the next release.

Used this on win 7 32. Worked perfectly no problem. Thanks a lot. Helped me in a huge way.

Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda premium

    Thanks! Crossed off the list!

I should also mention that you don't need to be stock. You can be rooted. The test is complete when you see Chainfire's CFAutoRoot.
