Actually, I made a video about the Pen Mod the other day, and I'd like to know on which devices exactly it does and does not work. This thread has contradicting facts whether it works on the Z2 and Z3, and I'm not even sure about the Compact devices. I'd like to update the video description with what does and doesn't work, so it's clear once and for all.

So if y'all could tell me if it either works by default, needs the mod or simply doesn't work at all on your device, that'd be greatly appreciated :highfive:

Well as far as I am concerned Pen Mod does NOT work on Z1C

Pen mode works on Z1. It may seem like it works fine, but after a while you'll notice unpredictable behavior. The screen starts going crazy, clicking on random locations on its own. Obviously you could say that Z1 wasn't designed to be used with Pen mode.

HI ! Cant seem to be able to Download the toggle app, blocked by AV... is it the same as we used in KK ? i still have it :)

I downloaded your app but it doesn't work,is it because I didn't root it?(How to root BTW) or is it because my phone is not compatible(My phone is Sony Xperia Z4 aka Song Xperia Z3+)

Z1 honami doenst work 5.1.1 lolipop , doesnt accept to edit file system/etc/hw_config.sh, says "cant save file", doesnt open app if press pen mode ico , for some reason now after installation system folder disappear,

It works just fine on my Xperia Z1 running 5.1.1 Lollipop (14.6.A.0.368). I'm not sure what you're doing wrong but it definitely still works on this Android version.
I even made a persistent notification toggle for the Pen Mod 'app' with Tasker, so I can toggle pen input quickly whatever I'm doing (that's a protip for y'all Tasker fans) :cool:

as i know sony has blocked this feature, but if the new apk file has avoid sony update, this is something that i dont know, btw With what app you have root your mobile ? i have root it with king root. Maybe the problem has to do with root. Thanks for reply.

I have z1 6903 am on custom android 4.4.4 st ultimate v3 and app with root access worked for me. Have second glass screen protector and pen mode work with steel, copper, cable insulation, soft plastic (water bottle) but needed little more preasure, and glass. Option for editing pressure, and some on/off indicator will be lovely.

i cant change the value into "1"
1. i tried the app, didnt work.
2. tried using es note editor, edit it directly, didnt work, as soon as i saved it the value back to 0
3. add a init.d script using Kernel Adiutor

I tried the app in my rooted xperia z1 compact with the original rom, modified the pen file from 0 to 1 and is not working.

    AOKP introduced pen mode for Z1 and I could enable it on stock ROM!
    Xperia Z Ultra can use the pen or pencil made of wood or metal as stylus, but Z1's screen also supports it and Sony disabled it for some reason.

    root is needed to enable this.

    To enable pen mode, there's three methods.
    One of them is enough.
    ● Create init.d script in /system/etc/init.d (requires init.d support):

chown system:system /sys/devices/virtual/input/clearpad/pen
echo 1 > /sys/devices/virtual/input/clearpad/pen
    ● Add these lines at the bottom of /system/etc/hw_config.sh:

echo 1 > /sys/devices/virtual/input/clearpad/pen
    ● Use toggle app
    I created pen mode enable/disable toggle app with Tasker.

    Nice to see someone wrote up all the instructions and got the tasker app for stock too. :cowboy: I was about to open a thread to mention this can be done on stock too, but I had work and forgot about it. Thank you for posting this.

    I update my app's toggle method, it uses "cat /sys/devices/virtual/input/clearpad/pen" now.

    I recommend changing one value in /system/usr/idc/clearpad_pen.idc for more sensitivity.
    With default settings, it made broken lines (due to screen not rsponed to touch) when I write something but 0.1 is fine for me.
